Update: Vancouver police block Cambie Street after stabbing

Police say one person was stabbed and witnesses reported "a man chasing people with a knife"

The VPD has closed off a block of Cambie Street in downtown Vancouver as part of an investigation into an assault.

Police blocked off the 800-block between Robson and Smithe streets on March 20 around 12:30 p.m., notifying the public in a social media post. Additionally, the VPD has blocked off the entrance to 842 Cambie St. with police tape and an officer standing guard.

The VPD has stated that one person was stabbed and a 911 caller reported "a man was chasing people with a knife" near the intersection of Smithe and Beatty streets this morning, according to a press release.

Officers arrived and a 46-year-old man is now in police custody in connection with the incident.

A different man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Early this afternoon several items were on the street behind the tape at 842 Cambie St., including a fold-up knife with the blade visible. Lighters, a pair of Crocs, and an orange hat were also visible.

The VPD are now looking for witnesses to this morning's incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541," state the police.
