It’s been sunny lately and the tides have been going OFF….so it’s time to dust off that skimboard and hit the beach…..or you can just go to the bar and hang out with people who skim….

I walk past this highly secure lawn on a daily basis. It’s beautifully lush green blades of grass are protected by a crazy iron fence on one side and chain link on the other. At one point there was a another chain link fence in front of the chain link fence and the iron fence! Plus there’s not one but two security cameras watching it at all times. Strange, or are these the lengths one must take to ensure a dog poo free spot of grass in downtown Vancouver.

Just found out about a Vancity event via a European blog/magazine which I thought was something to share with all of you kids …. the fact I found a Vancity posting on a European site before noticing it here is another debate. The people behind this shop and event are not new to the DIY scene by any means and definitely deserve your support.
BUT today I just want to throw out a little comment to inspire discussion…
are the parrallels between sk8ing and fixies only obvious to those of us that sk8 ? is gettin a fixie the same as the suit and tie that rides his long board to work ? i.e. is it a trend? is it so fun and practical that is makes other bikes obsolete ? (I am sure its is exhilarating , and the fact you have to find a “line” is really intriguing to myself …I read this in a cool puma/vice mag pullout ) do you not participate in something just cause its popular ( rollarblading anyone ?) , do you get on the bandwagon cause it must be fun …jeeze everyone is doing it ? or does all this stuff not even matter , as long as you are out there doing something ! Recently a friend of ours was here from the uk and an observation he made was ” all you vancouverites are into some kind of outdoor activity , but I have noticed each respective group likes to hate on the others” …..hmmmmmmm.
Guess what I am saying here is if the shoe fits wear it , and ” do whut ya like”
I myself look forward to checking the sware out and learning more about heads risking life and limb in the city streets( any contraption in the city streets can make your life flash in front of your eyes !), some history behind it and congratulating the crew on there success …and shit Futura ! still kind of a fan boy when it comes to him.
one last thought to really make me unpopular, ok two …. if your not standing sideways is it wack ? and is this scene from quicksilver something I might see there ….
lol , kiddin

Snoop Dogg’s West Fest tour is coming with a pretty insane lineup (Snoop, Warren G, Tha Dogg Pound, Western Union, Warzone, Mr FAB) for a venue as small as the Commodore. The exclusive presale starts at 10am today at www.gmanandrizk.com
Just stumbled across this clip that Caissie put together last week. It’s definitely spring now. Shit, it’s actually kinda feeling like summer…
I run this other site that you may of heard of called Mumble, and on there we do these features where we partner with different publishers to bring excerpts from books that our readers might be interested in. Click here for the most recent one, then scroll down that page for the archives.
I’m gonna do the same sorta thing here from now on, only less connecting with publishers and more just taking photos of and reviewing books I come across that are local interest or just published by companies out of the lower mainland. Here we go…

BC Provincial Police Stories Volume 2
This first one is a gem that you’ll find either in a gift shop in Gastown or at a gas station on the way out of town. Heritage House has a bunch of this sort of format in their catalogue; easily readable short story books that are awesome to read while you’re out camping, visiting the city from out of town, that sort of thing. I think they sell a lot to tourists.
I’m not a tourist but lately I love learning about Canadian history, be it national, provincial or regional. This book (the best one I’ve read out of 3 volumes that they’ve released) takes you back to the 1800′s before the RCMP was formed, in the days of the first western lawmen.
Edited by Cecil Clark, a former Deputy Commisioner of the force, they pull wild west stories from what I can only assume has been generations of word-of-mouth passing down of these tales combined with factual information from some of the actual police reports that were filed.
As I mentioned above, it’s easy/quick to read and it lets you in on some super interesting facts about not only the history of the cops and robbers in our province but about society as a whole. Super rad stuff.
