Expo 86 Radical Moves!

July 31, 2008

Were you alive in 1986? Did your entire life revolve around skateboarding? If you’re like me, seeing your 80’s skateboard heros at the expo vert ramp was probably the best thing a 9 year old brain could fathom. Fast forward to the year 2008, when my friend DJ Science stumbled upon this piece of history immortalized on VHS video tape. It was shipped to us from A to Z Video in Brooklyn New York and we were half expecting to see Mos Def and Jack Black trying to skate with cardboard backgrounds a la “Be Kind Rewind”. What we did receive however is probably one of the best things my eyes have ever had the good fortune of viewing. There’s vert freestyle and even Seylynn bowl jam, and let me tell you you’ve never seen Seylynn skated so amazingly. I could write 20 more pages about how awesome this movie is, and now that we’ve transfered it to DVD format it will never ever wear out.

Infernal Tranquility

July 31, 2008

A friend of mine recently moved and hired the best moving company EVER! You may have heard of them – they’re called Tranquility Movers. Doesn’t ring a bell?

Well maybe because they are better known as two of the dudes from metal band Infernal Majesty.
Infernal Majesty at the Cobalt 2006
(Infernal Majesty @ The Cobalt 2006)
I had a good laugh seeing the contrast in the two websites:

www.infernalmajesty.ca (To stand against evil means you stand alone)

www.tranquilitymovers.com (For that calm peaceful serene move)

Oh, and apparently they kick ass in the moving department as much as they do on stage.

Playland

July 30, 2008

Playland is a Vancouver staple… like rain and mountains, it’s always there…

Going to Playland on a really rainy summer afternoon is a guarantee that you’ll never ever have to wait in line.

Also, like a lawless western town, Playland in the rain brings out the funny bone in everyone…

Everyone should experience Playland!

Tour in progress.

July 28, 2008

Last Saturday, Vancouver based artist Ben Tour and Livestock released a series of limited edition artist t-shirts. The shirts turned out to be amazing and on the same day of the release we found Ben just down the street from the West 4th store, on the roof of Noodle Box working on a Mural for the restaurant. Now you can enjoy a new T while eating a spicy peanut and prawn box along with some Ben Tour artwork at the same time. The mural is still in progress So i’ll post some new pics when it’s all done. (still in the works but it already looks killer…)

Hella Irie…

July 28, 2008

Being someone that’s down for the reggae (either you love it or you hate it), I felt compelled to join a few friends at the 21st Annual Caribbean Days Festival in North Van’s Waterfront Park on Sunday. I dropped in at noon to see Daddy Roy The Messenger under warm overcast skies, followed by a beer garden session featuring frosty Carib and real-deal Jamaican beef patties—forget them Pizza Pops.

why havent you gone (too) Krazy !?!

July 27, 2008

no excuse, go to the VAG now ….

( Vancouver in (on) the house !)

( is this McGee stuff even part of the exhibit?kinda tucked away and lookin like unofficial street art)

http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/the_exhibitions/exhibit_krazy.html

ps, make sure to check upsatirs too , lots of other good exhibits, like the infamous Chinese artist Zhang Huan

pps, if ya got kids go on a Sunday, lots of activities and extra attetion paid to the short people.

PPPS- Of course Michelle Evers comes through with the real info on the McGee stuff

“Hey – just wanted to say.. that McGee stuff in the VAG has been running for well over 5 years (at least!). Apparently he painted them while installing a Margaret Kilgallen (his departed wife and artist) retrospective. They never buff it, despite the exhibition.. Makes you wonder what other little secrets the VAG has.. ”

San Diego Chicken VS The Fireworks

July 24, 2008
