HOOD PHOTOS / CHINATOWN

August 28, 2008

I know we currently have Hood Wars going on, but I thought to extend that and do lil photo stories for some of the neighbourhoods in Vancouver. The idea came up when I looked through all my files and realized I had a legitimate amount of photos to represent Gastown, Chinatown, Strathcona, Railtown, Coal Harbour, West End and etc. I still have yet to fully document Kitsilano, Granville Island along with some other places...but I'll post as I shoot. Hopefully at the end there will be a full Vancouver Hood Portfolio. Enjoy...and please credit me if you decide to use any of these photos. Thanks.

HOOD WAR #2- North Shore

August 28, 2008

Only a couple blocks away from my house is the row of shops called Dundarave. Its the oldest area of West Van back when it used to be just summer cottages for wealthy vancouverites. home to 4 coffee shops, 3 art galleries, a farmers market and a mellow attitude, exept for the angry chinese guy who runs the local market (been rippin me of for a decade). The outside tables at the restaurants are a great place to hang and takin all the characters that roam the streets. A couple of my friends work at the IGA on the corner, so its real good fun to go and mess up the produce displays. So, as a 4th generation west vaner i gotta make sure my hood is repped right.

i mean, how many other hoods have an equerry?

awesome

HOODWARZ HIJACK!!!! RAILTOWN #1

August 28, 2008

Yeah…that’s right….you guys are sleepin’ on your own hoods….maybe this will get you started…

I’m not singling anyone out…I just found I had photos of this place….

Sunrise is probably my favourite produce place in the city….When I first moved out, I’d go to this place weekly. It’s the cheapest produce I know of and it’s pretty quality stuff. I often see restaurant owners buying their shit there. They also got a stacks of grey market borderline stuff like boxes of cliff bars and yves products that are just about to expire….all for….you guessed it…cheap cheap…

What I enjoy even more so is the clientel. There’s a ton of old ladies that remind me of my grandmother and great grandmother, but they are ruthless. They cut in line, elbow you, and when you’re standing there wondering what the hell just happened….they’ll fart. I don’t know if there’s anything more adorable than that. Sometimes too you’ll see some kid working there for the summer battle a junkie over a banana, sometimes the kids win…sometimes they aren’t so lucky…..

I’m not even going to mention Riceworld across the street…that’s a post all to itself….

Over to you Craig….

Livestock & DVS

August 28, 2008

This Saturday Livestock will be releasing their double label shoe with DVS at all of their locations. The model is called the Rico and it comes in waxed black canvas…

And semi-patent leather…

For $65.00 you can’t really go wrong with these.

Hood Wars #1 – Shaughnessy (and then some)

August 27, 2008

Granville Park Lawn Bowling Club.

I’m basically counting down the days until I can devote my days to lawn bowling. In fact, I went by my local lawn bowling club and the seniors were more than happy to sign me up on the spot to show up weekly and roll with them. (pun intended)

While I talked to one of the older gals she made a note to point out the guy in the brown slacks with the walking cane.

“See that man over there?”

“Yeah”

“Well, he lost his leg in the war. Great bowler.”

I didn’t know what I should be more proud of. The fact that he sacrificed for our country, or that he was a fantastic bowler. I’m stoked on both, and I can’t wait to beat him.

VIAslist… FREE STUFF!

August 27, 2008

UPDATE:
RYAN NARITA IS THE PROUD NEW OWNER OF ALL OF THE STUFF SEEN BELOW! THANKS RYAN!

Here’s a photo of Ryan shortly before taking off with his new crap!

THE ORIGINAL POST:
So over the past 3 weeks I’ve been moving all of my crap from Yaletown to Mount Pleasant and in the process I’ve come to the conclusion that I have way too much stuff. I was going to post this on Craigslist but I figured I’d rather offer it to somebody who reads this blog than to some creepy old lonely dude who combs the FREE section looking for salvageables. Here’s the deal:

IF YOU CAN TAKE ALL OF THIS STUFF OUT OF MY LIFE, YOU CAN HAVE IT FOR FREE.

We’ll arrange a time when we can meet and I will stand around while you pack up all of this stuff into bags or boxes or whatever and take it away. The deal is that you have to take it all, including the couch, and that I’m not helping you because I’m sick of moving stuff. And I’m not offering any of this stuff up separately, so don’t even ask.

There’s tons of good stuff including a brand new woodcarving kit, a coleman lantern, a brand new Tokidoki toy still in the box, a brand new Andre X Arkitip Incase hip bag, a brand new Incase Ipod charger for the car (just released, never used), two used skateboards and a set of wheels, a pair of British Knights that I wore in my interview in ON Video, a pair of WESC gloves, brand new Arkitip Magazine issue with the Viewfinder, 2 antique tanning lamps with funny packaging that has pictures of a baby tanning, some cans of spray paint, a pair of shoelaces…

Jeremy Fish New Era, a Melodica tote bag, a couple other hats, most in near new condition…

Three brand new pairs of size 32 Analog jeans with the tags still on them, some random shoes and mugs…

This Epson CX Scanner, printer, copier deal. I was using this up until a month ago and it comes with an extra Cyan cartridge…

Lastly, the couch and the coffee table. Both in great condition. Oh, and the couch is a fold-down futon…

Hit me up at [IT'S ALL GONE!] if you want all of this stuff. Again, I’m not giving any of it up separately, you have to take it all. Don’t hit me up like “I HAVE to have that Andre Incase bag! Can I buy it?” because you have to take it all, for free, or nothing.
