North Shore HOOD WARS #5- TOMAHAWK y’all

POSTED September 27, 2008 BY Trevor Clarke
Tweet

Officially the “Tomahwk Barbeque” this joint has been around for over 80 years, serving the people of the north shore. The third generation of owners still runs the place and kept it pretty much the same.

the prices are really reasonable and they have the most legendary food, the grandaddys of them all: Yukon Breakfast and the Skookum Burger. dear lord it is good

one of the coolest things about this place is the art. during the depression, native artists from the nearby reserve would trade carvings, paintings and statues for food. over time they have accumulated one of the biggest private native art collections in BC. they show only about a third of what they have in the restaurant itself with the rest of it in a warehouse.

the place is a landmark, always busy and always good. although, really, the best part is the placemat

I produced a story when I worked at the CBC where I took Nadwuar there to show us what he likes about the Tomahawk. I had to watch him eat the Skookum Chief burger… and to say it nicely, it turned me off.
But the family who runs it (The Chamberlaines) have done a great job of keeping it going. Also – i think Paul Martin has eaten there? as well as some other canadian celebrities…
