hood wars #8(almost there)- redo-the patty shop

October 31, 2008

this is a repost. truth be told, but this is THE best joint in my hood.

in australia they refer to a case of beer as a “slab” here in vancouver i think of a dozen jamaican patties from the patty shop, located just down the street from my house. it’s been there since i can remember you can get a frozen “slab” or individually ready to eat. spinach, beef, chicken, hot or mild, 15min. in the oven, damn tasty. the thing i like about VIA is the little gems that the contributors decide to share with the 10 or so people (not including the contributors) that check out the site frequently. the stats are purely speculatory by the way.

HALLOWE’EN muhahahahaha

October 31, 2008

Due to a football game inconveniently scheduled on the 1st, i had to echew my usual halloween behavior of raucus and mischeif for a more conservatie approach, manning the door for the 400 kids that come down my street. Let me tell ya, the little ‘uns were super cute and the scares were ultra effective.

Plus after a few glasses of red, my mom really gets into it and dresses up to scare the bejeezus out of some kids AND adults none the less. seeing them wonder all if she was real or fake really was worth the price of admission. some little curious george lifted up her dress to see if his sneaking suspicions were true!

30 is the Magic Number

October 31, 2008

The Seylynn snake run in North Vancouver turned 30 recently, making it Canada’s oldest concrete skatepark that’s still intact. The legendary ‘crete has certainly seen its fair share of heavy shralping and famous skaters over the years. Hell, the Fourstar dudes even made a point this year of taking a day trip up to Seylynn to skate the curves while the Kokanees were chillin’ in Lynn Creek. Push.ca/skateboarding recently posted a 2-column series I did on Seylynn and the Bowl Series to commemorate the park’s 30th, and the Series’ 14th year as a grassroots event. I hope you enjoy ‘em.

Also, don’t forget to shake off the Halloween cobwebs tomorrow in preparation for the costumed skate jam down at Leeside, followed by Independent Trucks’ 30th anniversary party at the Sweatshop, featuring Pride Tiger. There’s a tight mini-ramp there for the boozy-brave.

Dogtown Vancouver: Kona!

October 31, 2008

It’s a new dog every day, click here to find out how to get your dog featured here if you haven’t sent in your photos yet!

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is The Gilley Brothers’ babe, Kona. Here’s what they had to say about her…

NAME: Kona.
BREED: Flat Coated Retriever.
HER HOOD: Dunbar.
FAVORITE SNACK: Cheese and Kibble.

OTHER INFO: Kona is a very strange and super friendly dog. When she sees you for the first time, she runs at you smiling and licks your hands. She loves to roll around in the grass, she’s really calm and she only barks when the doorbell rings. She also enjoys rolling about in dead fishes on the beach.

Steppin’ up.

October 30, 2008

Hey fellow contributors and regular readers. I figured I should stop procrastinating and actually submit a t-shirt design…so here she is. Thanks.

blue tee

I realized the actual logo would look better, so I had to edit my post and throw in a version with the logo I nabbed from the top of the site.

Dry Autumns, awesome colors and brave racoons…

October 30, 2008

I’m probably shooting everyone in the foot here… but it’s been a really dry Autumn, which is rad because the trees look brighter and the leaves blow around in the air instead of being all gross and slippery on the cement.
Fall’s color is awesome!

The other night, a family of racoons walked right into us. It was hard remembering NOT to pet them… and these sucker’s were …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>
