dunbar spooky-ish

October 30, 2008

SR put up the challenge, and i stand behind the west side, so here are some houses we saw within a 2km bike ride the other day, the sun was shining (not THAT spooky), but you get the idea, halloween spirit! also as you can see tombstones were real big this year.

Dogtown Vancouver: Rocco!

October 29, 2008

It’s a new dog every day, click here to find out how to get your dog featured here if you haven’t sent in your photos yet!

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Sunny Shum‘s buddy, Rocco. Here’s what she had to say about him…

NAME: Rocco.
BREED: Shih Tzu / Maltese AKA “Shitty Malt”.
HIS HOOD: He has 2 homes actually. Coal Harbor Downtown Vancouver when he is with me and my BF and in the burbs (Richmond) when he visits grandma and grandpa.
FAVORITE SNACK: Loves popcorn and turkey jerky.
OTHER INFO: He climbs things like he’s a cat and he’d rather hang with humans (not one for other doggy friends).

Jock post of the week…..

October 29, 2008

It’s humbling when you realize that your interests are pretty similar to those of a 12 year old…. videogames…skateboarding….and street hockey.  In some ways what’s even sadder is some of the compromises I’ve made as an adult like….’man..i can’t skate street spots no more….I’m older than the dude kicking me out…’

Civic Election!

October 29, 2008

We got a civic election coming up on Nov. 15th….I always hate these cause there’s all sorts of choices (how’s that for a complaint!)…the ballot is mad long and sometimes it feels like having to fill out a skill testing question to enter your  name in a draw…. you just get annoyed and almost want to just walk away…..but seriously…..you should vote….

Well….I’m not going to tell you who to vote for (except one person later…and it’s just parksboard….) but what I want to point out is  how stoked I am that the two front runners for the next mayor are both down for skateboarding…

Both mayoral candidates’ have kids who skate….Gregor’s people tell me he’s down for all things skateboarding and while the plaza was in the works, Peter Ladner who was a councillor, showed support.

To read more about all the candidates and to start working on your cheat sheet….HERE (click) is a good start!

*In the spirit of awesomeness….I’ve made an effort to make this post politically neutral….pls. don’t be a spoiler…..

Stanley Park Halloween Train

October 29, 2008

It’s that time of year, where the fine folks at Stanley Park decorate the train to make it very Halloween-y.
This years theme is “Pirates”, and it’s a definite must to check out if you like riding around on a miniature train.

I got the hookup!

October 28, 2008

If you don’t want to fill out that online form to buy fireworks in the city all you gotta do is step over Boundary Road and get yer butt into Burnaby, the municipality that has the loosest rules on fireworks this side of Tijuana. Air bombs aplenty, there’s about 20 spots just along Hastings street! Here’s two of em…
