photo’s on a t-shirt?

January 31, 2009

It’s tough to release a t-shirt in the middle of winter but with the weather today I couldn’t hold out any longer and when I got to the shop I put these out on the floor.

A while back I got together with fellow Vancouverites, KENTA GOTO and  SETH FLUKER (www.seewhateyesee.com) to work on some photo tees for the shop. They each chose 2 photo’s from their personal archive and away we went. I was really pleased with the results and of course it’s always nice to work on projects with friends and have the usual pressures lifted. If you want a little more detail into each of the photo’s you can CHECK IT HERE and if you want to get your hands on one THEN THIS IS THE SPOT.

Derek Swaim @ the Sweat Shop

January 30, 2009

If you re itching to skate in Van right now you can head down to the Sweat Shop on Hastings and Victoria for a session.  Its grimy as hell but fun none the less.  We have been filming a “winter training” segment for push.ca with Stacy Gabriel and Derek Swaim and the whole time Derek has been bugging me to shoot him on the transition.  Here he goes “Penny”esque with a b/s flip in? WTF

URGENT VIDEO HELP!

January 29, 2009

Jon Rawlinson to the rescue! I’ve never met him before but he’s stepped up and is renting me his SONY V1U tomorrow afternoon! Everybody go check out Jon’s reel at jonrawlinson.com.

I’m reaching out to any VIA readers, contributors, anyone really, who has a Sony HDV camera they’re able to rent to me for a couple of hours in the next day or two. I’m working on a film project right now and received a DV tape in the mail and I can’t import it into Final Cut because the camera I use (a Panasonic DVX) won’t read the tape! Do you have a Sony HDV camera like the one below? Do you like shoes, skateboards, and skateboard wheels? I have lots to trade. Or money (I don’t have lots of money but I can afford to pay you for the favor). HIT ME UP! I AM IN DIRE NEED!

Vancouver’s Most Awesome #1:
Douglas Coupland!

January 29, 2009

Thinking about someone who oozes Vancouver is sometimes hard…

But then I got thinking… and realized that there was probably no one better to start off Vancouver’s Most Awesome, than Vancouver’s own writer, artist, chronicler and proud Vancouverite, Douglas Coupland…

Q)
What’s your first memory of Vancouver?

A)
I can’t be sure chronologically BUT I think it was in summer of 1966 when I was 4 1/2 and my brothers were calling me stupid for not being able to read yet, and were driving by the Alberta Wheat Pool (it’s still there, but it’s called something else a few times over by now) at the south end of the Ironworkers’ and I looked at the words, ALBERTA WHEAT POOL and it all came together and I’ve been reading pretty much at the same speed  ever since.   BTW, that’s something I’ve noticed, that everyone establishes their reading ‘cruising speed’ early on in life and they never change it.

Q)
Favorite thing to do as a kid in Vancouver?

A)
So many things. I grew up in Read more

Coraline Dunks… and the movie is opening on Feb 6th

January 29, 2009

I always give people shit when they post stuff that doesn’t really have anything to do with what makes Vancouver awesome so before you get any deeper know that the movie Coraline is opening here on February 6th, these shoes are currently living in Vancouver and… and… that’s it.

coralinedunks1

Even though it’s coming from a huge advertising agency (Wieden + Kennedy), there’s been something really nice and honest about the social media/influencer marketing efforts surrounding the 3D stop-motion spectacle, Coraline, that’s coming out in a few days. That first little gift I showed you that they sent to me around Christmas, that was really nice of them. It got me interested enough to check out the trailer and the in-depth site they built for the movie, which got me interested enough to read up about the film and about Laika and somewhere in amongst doing that digging I came to the conclusion that Read more

No nukes?

January 28, 2009

After spending a couple weeks down in California, I forgot that there are not nuclear weapons every couple blocks in Vancouver. I’m sure there are a couple tucked away in Camp Pendleton in Oceanside.

Three cheers for Japanese dudes…..

January 28, 2009

Shu, Ju, Jiro, Kuni, Koda, Saho…..I’ve lost count of the Japanese skateboarders visiting Vancouver that I’ve met.  Every summer, you roll up to the plaza and there’s a whole new crew.  They’re always so full of stoke, and they have that crouching tiger stance right before they do a trick….I think it’s impossible not to become their friend.  These guys are here for a month and plan to go to Burnside.  They weren’t really posing for the photo…they’re like that all the time.
