THE OFFICIAL WORD:

Join visionaries from games and digital entertainment, social media, interactive design, and animation and VFX from May 11-14, 2009 in Vancouver. You may recognize Julie Morstad’s artwork from the cover of Neko Case’s 2006 album, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. Julie, one of my favorite artists, has illustrated several books- Milk Teeth (by Drawn and Quarterly), Where You Came From, and the award-winning When You Were Small. Her artwork has adorned not only books, but galleries (Atelier Gallery and Antisocial), clothing (with Lifetime Collective), and wallpaper (at Moustache & Darling). Her commission work client list includes The Globe and Mail, Warner Brothers Records and The Walrus Magazine. Most recently, Julie and her brother, Paul worked on Neko Case’s “People Got a Lotta Nerve” video. Julie shares with us a little glimpse into her world.
Leeside, near the PNE, is a special kind of wood-wheel tunnel that continues to evolve. Not only does it exist as a unifying memorial project, it’s fully DIY—managed, paid for, and built by the hands of skaters. Read more about it right here.
My friend, Mike Gieger, has a blog that he updates from his home here in Vancouver and that you should probably take a look at. Aside from an awesome sampling of animations he’s done (he’s worked on Yam Roll, Ren + Stimpy and others that you might recognize), he also updates with childhood drawings that he dug up…

I’ve already got a ton of these amazing mags, but I had to get one that had a skateboard feature in it. The rest are still there for $1 each at Treasure Cottage Thrift Store. They are at 121 Lonsdale Ave. North Vancouver.
Local outerwear apparel legend Westbeach is developing a jacket to help raise funds and awareness of breast cancer and promote early age self breast checks. A portion of the sales proceeds from the jacket will go to the Keep A Breast Foundation.
Women are invited to submit an anonymous photo of their chest, nude or in bra, to become part of the print artwork for the jacket’s lining (keeping the cause close to the heart, yo). Those who do will be entered into a draw for the jacket. Submissions close June 30, 2009. Details here.
