Norco

I’ve always been interested in BMX’s, when I was a kid it had to be a Kuwahara, I had a factory bike decked out in California lights and I was pretty happy, I never got a laser lite, but still I was happy. One company I totally slept on was Vancouver’s Norco. Recently I found a poster I’ve had since 1985, a Norco BMX catalog to be specific. I was really surprised to see among the Spitfire’s they built Redline! They also offered pearl paint, alloy rims, and laid back seat posts in 85. The most important bike that WAS and now IS sought after was the Starfire ZL Long, this was a serious race bike and doubled at the Grand Nationals in 84.

Norco started up in 1965 and is still a local company and continues to make decent BMX’s. They still have a few factory team riders.

I did a little research and I don’t think there is a another bicycle company in Canada that makes BMX’s!

The poster esthetically is pretty cool, I love the fact that the main person is in the full suit with all the pads and number plate. It says #1 Factory team in Canada…was their another Factory team in Canada?

There is no other company in Canada that makes BMX bikes, unless you go custom. Actually, there is one, and it’s Seshin, but he is not making them this year.

from 1985 on they also had a freestyle team that travelled to do shows, as well as performing at the PNE every summer for a while. they were based out of edmonton and were featured in freestylin’ magazine around the same time.

pretty much the first canadians were ever featured in a usa mag for doing tricks on little kids bikes!

ummm, Norco may be Canadian , and supporting Canadians is cool … but kinda remember Norco being the ‘knock off’ company … like a sub par licencee ..thus “factory” kui’s and regular ones…maybe this canadian will know

    i had this poster… and still I chose a Raleigh Trackmaster…

the good thing about bmx bikes is that back in the 80′s, unless you really knew your shit, every chrome bike looked really similar.

so you could, in fact, run just about any frame with any sticker set on it, and no one would really know exactly what bike your rode when you were racing.
