AN OPEN LETTER TO VANCOUVER, SENT TO US
I received this incredibly awesome letter and seeing Jef’s post today, I figured it was the perfect day to share it with everybody:
I was recently forced to leave Vancouver Island and move to Vancouver, the BIG city, the dangerous city, the city wrapped up in gang violence and fear. I say forced because I was in desperate need of a liver transplant and it was felt by my medical team back home that it was essential that I move to the city to be near the transplant team so that they could understand just how fast I was deteriorating. We did the move.
My loving wife came over for a day to find us a place to move into. She came over to view a couple of places that a friend had prescreened for us. I had told my wife and friend that if I was to die I wanted to go out living in a little class, if I lived I would figure out how I was going to pay for it. A beautiful place on Marinaside, right over the marina was selected, the cost per month unbelievable but somehow worth it. We have a shepherd and every day, several times a day she must be walked over to the dog park. It has amazed me since day one, but if I have looked into the faces of 1,000,000 people over the last two months while just out walking along the shore, I have seen 985,000 smiling faces. Everyone is friendly, everyone receptive to chatter, I have seen no fear in any face and I have to say that I can’t think of a better place on earth to recover from this transplant. Thank you, Yaletown, Vancouver.

I can’t help but blame the ‘other’ media for the bad rep the city has got recently. If there’s anything to fear..it’s not beautiful Vancouver, it’s places like Maple Ridge, Surrey and Abbotsford…where 90% of that gang nonsense goes down. The actual city of Vancouver is really, really safe.

He’s so right!
I always feel safe in Vancouver. I feel safer there at 10pm on a Saturday night than I do in Glasgow…
Get well soon, Cliff

Get well Cliff!!!
Also, I love the math that tie this and Jef’s post together:
- Vancouver scored 98% on the livability chart
- Cliff got 985,000 out of 1,000,000 smiles… that’s 98.5%
Averaged out, that’s not bad…
