FIT FOR A KING 2

June 30, 2009

Yesterday I let you know about Prince Charles coming to town. A few weeks back you might remember that Prince Eddie was here and I said that if anybody could send me an ALMOST FAMOUS photo of themselves with him they would receive a TBD prize pack worth $100.

Our very own North Van correspondent, Trevor Clarke, answered the call… kinda. He sent this photo of Prince Eddie shaking the hand of somebody he knows receiving an award from him at some sort of ceremony.

Not exactly the “Check it out, I’m chillin wit’ Prince Eddie!” photo I was expecting but, Trevor, I will give you something nice as a prize nonetheless.

This is a rare opportunity to support an artist at the beginning of her career and aquire work from one of her first shows, affordabilly, as their prints start at $20 USD. Check it out here.

2010 POSTERS

June 30, 2009

2010poster

One of the most collected things when it comes to Olympics (throughout history) is the posters. I’m still saving up for some of the original ones from Los Angeles 1984, today you can get a limited edition giclee print of the official Vancouver 2010 poster for only $150 (I don’t understand why or how it’s so cheap), or a regular print for $15.

The Proof – Frank Daniello

June 29, 2009

Our next featured local creative is our very own Skateboarding Editor and overall rad person, Frank Daniello. Frank moved to Vancouver from Winnipeg in 1998 and had his first written piece published in SBC Skateboard a few years later. He is now the associate editor at Concrete Skateboarding magazine, and also contributes as a writer to SBC Skateboard. He’s had work published in American magazines, Skateboarder and The Skateboard Mag, and also has a regular column on Push.ca. Here is a glimpse into Frank’s day-to-day life in and around Vancouver.

Vancouver is beautiful.

June 29, 2009

At the beginning of the weekend I had the pleasure of going boating with some great friends. Then at the end of the weekend I had the pleasure of going boating with some great friends and about 200 perfect strangers on a Siesta boat cruise. It is nice to get a refreshing perspective of our fine city from the water. Beautiful.

Water Views

June 29, 2009

The best thing about sneaking a spot on someone else’s boat in the summertime is being able to see our North Shore scenery from a different POV.

PEAK PERFORMACE PROJECT FINALISTS

June 29, 2009

Talk about Awesome, have you heard of the Peak 100.5 FM’s “Peak Performance Project” administered by Music BC? A few months ago they put a call for entries out to bands who have to send in their demos, etc, then they chose the top 20 of those which they’ll send to a boot camp/workshop thing. After that there’ll be a concert series that the bands play and in the end the best 3 artists/groups will share $275,000 (!!!) for sustained career development. They’re basically taking the best bands and giving them an amazing helping hand. And the program runs for the next 7 years, doling out 5.29 MILLION DOLLARS to 21 different artists. This is one more reason why the Peak is my favourite local station.

And I was pretty stoked to see that friends of V.I.A., Bend Sinister, were chosen out of the 450 bands that applied to participate in the inaugural year of the program. Yeah, Bend Sinister!

Here’s a link to the announcement page. And in case you’re wondering the top 20 are:
