Beach check out: Kits Beach

June 29, 2009

Vancouver has the best beaches period… ok… maybe not in the whole world, but when it comes to city beaches, I bet we do have the best beaches.

kits

Kits beach is pretty much ground zero for beaches in Vancouver. On a sunny weekend, or even on a sunny afternoon, the place is chalk full of Vancouver’s finest… and then there’s me…

COYOTES

June 28, 2009

This isn’t a part of City Critters (though coyotes will make their appearance sooner or later), but if you’re interested in coyotes in the city you should download this brochure…

say hello to Vancouver’s newest Canuck!

June 27, 2009

The NHL draft is boring… really boring… but when it’s the Canuck’s time… I always emerge from my coma long enough to see who we pick…

Apparently the same height as Cliff Ronning, but way heavier… the Canuck’s first round draft pick for 2009 was Jordan Schroeder, a center from Minnesota.

schroeder_82793

By all accounts, it sounds like a solid pick… although you don’t see a lot of 5″8 centers tearing up the league… there’s some though… anyway…

Let’s all keep our finger’s crossed that this guy can actually suit up and play for our team… Go ‘Nucks!

picture-1

This is a great opportunity for local talent to showcase and discuss their work. Many empty spots are left for Sunday’s session so hopefully you will come. This is also a great way to meet other talented people with whom you might want to collaborate on projects with. The link to the event is here

Dogtown Vancouver: Zooey Nuggs

June 27, 2009

It’s a new dog every day, click here to find out how to get your dog featured here if you haven’t sent in your photos yet!

Today’s dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Zooey Nuggs, Lynne P’s pup. Here’s what she had to say about her…

NAME: Zooey Nuggs.
BREED: Boston Terrier.
HOOD: Coal Harbour.
FAVORITE SNACK: Cheese & sometimes dirt.
OTHER INFO: I may be cute but I’m really a bad, bad bitch. I eat headphones and chase pigeons. I know how to spell “w-a-l-k-i-e-s” and snore louder than an old drunk dude passed out on a park bench. I’m a techie dog and I even have my own website: http://zooeyville.tumblr.com. You can find me on Twitter @ZooeyNuggs.

Blowin’ up my jock spots! Yoga?

June 27, 2009

Yeah…that’s right…I mess with yoga.  You know those days when you wake up and just feel…like old and creaky…and you’re not hung over (i’m just trying to connect here), yoga and pilates can really straighten those problems out.  I started taking the classes at the YWCA, because they are included with the membership, but since I switched up gyms, I haven’t been going.  After shopping around, I found the best bang for the buck is Bonsor community center in Burnaby.

What’s really cool is that they have a studio just set up for yoga, it’s not in some smelly gym.  The rates are super good too, drop in is 7.80, a 10 visit punch card is 68.40, and longer terms are even cheaper.  They pretty much run classes all day too so you can fit it into the busiest of schedules.  It’s right near Metrotown which is a bit out of the way for some, but it’s also on the sky train route.

For more info…….

Andrew for the Regional Assembly of Text

June 27, 2009

The Regional Assembly of Text is a wonderful little shop on Main Street that sells great stationary, cards, t-shirts, and well considered objects.
In their back counter is a series of drawers where they have different local artists do installations. Right now they have something new by amazing fine artist Andrew Pommier. He just installed it today. You remember Andrew from the Proof he did with us a few weeks ago.
Pictures will do it no justice, so you should really roll over there and look at it yourself.
