All dogs go to heaven….

June 26, 2009

There are tons of great places to take dogs in North Vancouver, my favourite is the Inter-River park which is just on the other side of the 2nd Narrows, right near Cap College.

It’s off leash, has poop bags, lots of dogs and trails go forever.  They also have some pretty funny signs that Sean Miller pointed out in previous post.  The park is so loved by dogs and their owners, that owners have set up a make shift memorial for all the pooches who have passed on.

It’s things like this that assure me that Vancouver is the most dog friendly place in the world….pretty cool stuff…. They should have a little kleenex dispenser though because poop bags don’t work so well when it comes to wiping those tears….sniff…sniff….

Abstract Architecture of Toblerusse

June 26, 2009

Local artist Russe Schwartz (aka. Toblerusse) is hosting an exhibition of his fantastically abstract paintings and prints this Saturday, June 27 from 6pm – 10pm on the 7th floor of the Scotiabank Dance Theatre. Yeah, the floor with that amazing patio area.

Stop by for a bit to see his stuff and to chit-chat with Russe (who happens to be a very nice guy, too!), and also to check out his Oh2B’s, these super cool devices he invented to manually rotate the work.

SKUNKS!

June 26, 2009

Hey, have you sent in your photo or drawing of a skunk yet? Neither has anybody else! Hop to it and you’ll be in the running for winning something nice from Arc’teryx! HERE’s the info and below is a photo I shot of a mural outside of my friend’s house on Fraser Street. Yes, that is a skunk on the left and I think that might be a beaver on the bench.

Mellow Smooth

June 25, 2009

Last night was a crazy one for music fans in Vancouver.  Megadeth & Slayer rocked GM Place while rapper Gift of Gab from Blackalicious dropped rhymes at The Biltmore.  In another part of town, the Tragically Hip had fans partying at The Orpheum while Major Lazer was blowin’ speakers just around the corner at the Commodore.

Down the street at the Centre for Performing Arts, a decidedly different vibe ruled the evening.  The artist known as Maxwell brought his unique brand of vintage-style soul to our city for the first time and made us realize what we’ve been missing.  New songs like “Pretty Wings” were received well but it was his ultra smooth renditions of old favorites like “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)” and “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” that brought the crowd to its feet.

Backed by an equally polished live band, he glided energetically yet effortlessly around the stage with a stealthy array of moves and showed us just how great modern soul music can be.
