V.I.A. Special tee shirt, the last one! – $15

I got these Stefan Janoski’s this week, they’re size 7 men’s but they fit like a small 6.5… so I can’t wear em, and they will be for sale.

Bottom line is that it’s gonna be cheap! Also, keep in mind that I’m not the only person selling stuff! Now 6 other people have confirmed and I know they’ve got closets full of stuff too.

Free Outdoor Music at Zulu

July 31, 2009

Every August, West 4th throws a big ’60s themed street party commemorating Kitsilano’s hippie heritage.  Having spent 3 summers working retail at Arbutus, I’ve always experienced the event as a half hour lunch break listening to classic rock cover bands.

untitled1

This year, Zulu is setting up a free stage and it’s got a little something different going on.  They’ve got Apollo Ghosts, Ora Corgan, Rose Melberg, The Evaporators, and No Horses on from noon until 4ish on August 15th.  If you have time, wander over to the macrame booth before the show starts and craft yourself a sweet headband.

did someone say “garage sale”?

July 31, 2009

We just moved, so we don’t have nearly as much stuff as we used to… but we do have some cool stuff for the upcoming garage sale in Mt Pleasant, and lots of kids stuff… maybe my kids too if they don’t smarten up and this heat continues on…

gsale

There’s some never worn New Era hats, cause no matter how hard I try, I look like a dick when I wear them, some new t’s, some DC shoes (7.5), kids books, stuffies, puzzles, and I’m looking for some other stuff too… now where’d I put my cassette tapes?

Yeah, sorry for the lack of posts but I’ve been up to my neck in work lately especially on this new project. We are also hiring on all aspects of this business now so feel free to send a resume to gman88@shaw.ca (oh yeah, also e-mail me if ou want to subscribe to the haps on fortune) with whatever your expertise is and stay tuned for more.Until we get the website straight, unfortunately the most info you will find is on this FACEBOOK group (join for the updates and soft opening launch).

Thanks to Kenta Goto for the logo, Randy Laybourne and Bob K for the grafix thus far, Science for the site, Andrea for the words, Orangutang for the build out, Shepard Fairey for the instal, Rick Klotz (Freshjive) & Livestock for the VIP, our friends that have helped work on the space, and the best for the last…Funktion-One for the sound…an all star cast. The Cramps

July 30, 2009

I was visiting UBC recently and was reminded of all the awesome gigs I saw there. The sub ballroom has some good memories, and is probably the most identifiable UBC venue. But for me the best place to see a show was the Thunderbird ice arena. In 1986 I saw the Cramps play the there, and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.

I had Bad Music for Bad People on repeat in my Walkman and when I heard the Cramps were playing an all ages show, I saved up my money and bought a ticket at Glass Onion record shop in Richmond. I also bought The Cramps Totally Destroy Seattle, which I recently saw selling at Dandelion Records for $600!

We had no way of getting there being only 13 so like the punk rockers we were we had to have my friends parents drop us off right in front of the building. What I liked about the venue was it was a very clean and suburban location crawling with people in mohawks and Braineater t-shirts. I had no idea Vancouver had such a Discharge type punk population. Everywhere you looked there was teenage anarchy and I loved it.

I remember buying a Cramps full colour zine, a sticker, people drinking booze out of fake binoculars and being amazed by Lux and Poison. The Ice arena is a rad venue years later I saw Fugazi at a North Van arena and that was cool as well, as you could stand on the floor or sit just about anywhere in the stands. The Thunderbird arena is still there and has been updated into a great hockey venue, and they still play gigs there, so go out to UBC make some memories.
