ON HIGH ALERT!

POSTED July 10, 2009 BY Bob Kronbauer

Perched on the top of 111 East 5th Ave is by far the hugest surveillance camera I have ever seen. This thing is on like an 8 foot tall quadrapod (is that a word?) and looks like some sortof 70MM motion picture camera.

The building isn’t some CSIS office, it’s the office building of a large estate planner, and this photo below is what the camera has been pointed at for the last couple of years…

But CSIS is in the immediate neighbourhood, so it may be connected to that, after all.

where’s csis? there’s two creepy unmarked buildings right around there; my friend said one of them is where “all the money comes into vancouver.” i don’t know what that means. canada mint franchise, coke depot, softwood lumber showroom?

Based a study of Google Maps, I think it’s the building at the northeast corner of 8th and Ontario. Back in the day, I could have told you more about this, but I am old, and have forgotten a lot.

The main floor is “hardened” against assault by anything up to tanks. Check the extremely angled concrete leading up to slit-like windows.

And the air intakes are all oriented downward, so as not to take in any radioactive fallout.

Professor Michael Wallace of UBC is my inspiration here. You should interview him and not forget the big anti-nuke rallies back in the day.

That’s exactly where it is. Why is it so reinforced? It houses a property management company… am I missing something here?

A property management company? I can guarantee you that was CSIS Vancouver headquarters back in the late ’80s/early ’90s!

I can’t imagine why they would have moved, but if they did, whoever bought their building would stand a better chance of surviving an armed assault or nuclear blast than most of the rest of us. That is one heavily reinforced building.

LEAVE A REPLY BUT DON'T TALK NO TRASH BECAUSE WE WILL DELETE IT. BE NICE!
