To add a little more info to this post; that mini bowl of stuff on top of the pannekoek was called ‘stroop’. It was one of the many toppings for the pannekoeks and it was described as apple butter. I don’t think that’s a very good description of it. It’s not buttery at all, but it was tasty!

pretty sure stroop is just dutch for syrup….i remember it from de dutch as just being a really thick maple syrup…maybe a bit more brown sugary but I suspect there’s all sorts of stroop….
