Scoot on the Interweb

July 30, 2009

scott-decenzo

I managed to get North Delta’s Scott “Scooter” Decenzo, 50% of the very talented Decenzo bros, on the phone for an online interview you can connect to right here. Although Scoot’s spending alot of time in Huntington Beach these days, you’ll find him on the road north of the 49th with RDS on their BC Tour.

FLEA MARKET GOODS – POST 2

July 30, 2009

This Sunday at the corner of Sophia Street and 16th Ave (CLICK for map) in Mt Pleasant a couple friends and I are doing a little yard sale/flea market. It’ll be one block east of Main, here’s a portion of the stuff I’ll be trying to get rid of for cheap…

yardsale2

JACKETS (USED):
Modern Amusement, Insight, Fenchurch, Matix, Crownfarmer, Chocolate, Diesel, WE and Adidas

yardsale3

TEES (USED):
A bunch o’ random tees.

Jackets’ll be like 15 bucks, tees like 5 bucks. Bottom line is that it’s gonna be cheap!
More photos of other stuff that’ll be sold (mine and my friends!) in the next couple days.
Scroll down for the first post with shoes, camera gear and more.

Also, keep in mind that I’m not the only person selling stuff! So far 4 other people have confirmed and I know they’ve got closets full of stuff too.

Rock The Bells This Weekend

July 30, 2009

viagiveaway1

Last call for entries!  Winners will be chosen today!

We’re giving away tickets to Rock The Bells courtesy of our friends GMAN & Rizk!  Nas,  Damian Marley, Common, Big Boi, Reflection Eternal, Tech N9NE, KRS-One, Pete Rock, Supernatural and many more talented artists will be in town to move the crowd this Saturday at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby.  Make no mistake – this is THE preeminent hip hop event in Vancouver!

There are two ways to get yourself a FREE pair of tickets: Category 1) Using the power of the written word, tell us why we should give you tickets.  Be creative – entries citing financial difficulties will be sent to the trash bin on sight; Category 2) Create a desktop wallpaper featuring any or all of the artists who will be appearing at this year’s show.  Include the words “Vancouver is Awesome” or our logo somewhere in the entry.  Keep the entries clean & publishable.  The best submissions (as judged by VIA editorial staff) will be awarded tickets!  The deadline for entries is Thursday, July 30th at 3:00pm.  Good luck & get moving!

Email all entries (including your full name, age & contact info) with the subject line “Rock The Bells Giveaway” to the Events Editor.

‘Couver comes up in Beantown

July 30, 2009

hoffart_dew-tour
Jordan Hoffart prior to a healthy bank deposit thanks to the Dew Tour’s Boston stop. Check the links below…

Summer means skate contest season in North America. The Dew Tour made a stop in Boston on July 24-25, and Nor-Del’s Ryan Decenzo handled his first Dew Tour appearance by taking second place in the “Skateboard Park” finals, sandwiched between Ryan Sheckler in first and Chris Cole in third. Learn more about how the Dew Tour operates right here. Check out Ryan Decenzo’s final run and interview here. A post-contest web story also mentioned “…the unmistakable debut of Ryan Decenzo as a pro…”, which is status well-deserved. Click here to check that out. Vancouver’s Jordan Hoffart also came up on 5 Grand with a power move in the Boston stop’s Best Trick jam. See it for yourself here, and watch the post-win interview here.

PERHAPS YOU CAN HELP SOLVE A MYSTERY

July 30, 2009

I’m pretty happy with the way these ‘putting a question out there and getting an accurate answer from someone in the community‘ posts have been going. I got a letter this morning from V.I.A. reader Alana, who said that “While riding my bike on the seawall, underneath the Granville St. bridge there is a sign with some strange markings on it. Maybe you could ask readers for help figuring it out?”

Here’s the photo, anybody know what this is about? Post in the comments if you do…

Also, if you’ve got a local mystery you want solved, send it to me (contact@vancouverisawesome.com) and I’ll put it out there!

Fireworks!

July 29, 2009

Maybe not as spectacular from the edge of town but when you add that to my usual nightly walk that already includes sprinklers, slurpees, and blackberry pickin‘….what more do you want?

It’s pretty cool that you can enjoy the fireworks from as far as Burnaby or West Vancouver, they estimate the attendance for all the nights at 1.4 million, but I wonder if that includes people like me?

BLOWIN’ UP YOUR HOLE! SWIMMIN’ IN NORTH VAN..

July 29, 2009

I’m giving it to the North Shore when it comes to selection of great places to swim.  Today Sue and I decided to take the pooch and beat the heat for at least a minute.  We went to one of your favourite dog spots at inter-river park in North Van and started walking up through the trails to see if we could find somewhere to swim.

Walking through the woods is a bit of a relief and when you get down to the water it’s got to be at least 5 degrees cooler.  The water is real cold…just the way I like it….it crossed my mind to bring a tent so I could stay the night….
