Secret Garden

July 29, 2009

Late last week, I accompanied my pal Russe (or Toblerusse) to Spanish Banks to find a big rock, made unique by time and the ebb and flow of waves and weather, for his new art project.

Our search took us the furthest point west, just before that hill slopes up toward UBC, where I found a bright, mini garden planted in the groove of a tree stump.

FLEA MARKET GOODS – POST 1

July 29, 2009

This Sunday at a TBA location in Mt Pleasant a couple friends and I are doing a little yard sale/flea market. Stuff that’s cluttering our closets and storage and offices, here’s a portion of the stuff I’ll be trying to get rid of for cheap…

yardsalebk

SHOES (SOME BRAND NEW):
Adidas, Ipath, Fallen, Nike SB

CAMERA STUFF:
Pro potato masher flash, Fuji loupe, 3 Vivitar flashes, mini softbox, Canon daypack.

RANDOM/ART STUFF:
Element prototype cruiser board ($10), framed photo prints ($10), limited edition Peter Saville screen prints ($5)

Shoes’ll be like 25 bucks a pair for the new ones, camera stuff will be equally cheap, random stuff will have random prices. Bottom line is that it’s gonna be cheap!

More photos of other stuff that’ll be sold (mine and my friends!) in the next couple days.

ICE CREAM DOOR HANDLES

July 29, 2009

If you’ve been to Mario’s Gelati down by Science World chances are that you’ve pulled on one of these ice cream cone shaped door handles. Did you notice? I hadn’t until recently…

UNTIL FRIDAY

July 29, 2009

60percent

That’s how much you can save on Via Rail (no relation to V.I.A., obviously) tickets to all Canadian destinations until Friday, on fares valid now until mid December. Load times on their site are super slow for obvious reasons but if you can get through, you’re stoked!

Surrey infiltrates Montreal

July 29, 2009

magnus-hanson

Canada’s biggest AM contest went down in Montreal from July 24-26: Zoo York’s AM Getting Paid at Le Taz skatepark in Montreal. And who took the first place slot and 5 Gs? None other than Surrey’s finest skate-citizen, Magnus Hanson. Nice work, Mag! Click here to see some footy from AGP 2009.

F’N SWEET!…NO…NO…..F’N SLEEP!

July 29, 2009

We try not to promote drug use here on VIA (with the exception of a Snoop concert), but for the well being of everyone I thought I’d share this one with you….personally….I don’t mess with anything….. except this….Neo Citron.

The lemony night time drink which you take when you have a cold or flu… in my case though…I take it when I need a real good sleep.  The sleep is always so clean….the next morning…no grogginess…no cobwebs….God knows with this weather we’ve been having….catching your z’s hasn’t been easy.

Hot..the stuff is pretty horrid….but in the course of sorting out my obsession with falling asleep on really hot days…I’ve realized it’s not bad iced….

Like any real Canadian, I take the generic brand….I usually pour just a bit of boiling water so the crystals melt…then put it over ice….if necessary I add a bit of water, a bit of sugar too.  The end result is a drink that tastes worse than Country Time but better than Crystal Lite, most importantly it knocks you on your ass!

Bottom’s up!

Bonus more chillin’ ways to get a good nights sleep.

TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING?

July 29, 2009

As per most of my random photo posts lately, these were shot not far from Main street. They got me thinking about an idea I’ve had that’s like a Westfalia timeshare. 52 people pitch in to purchase a bus and they each get it for one week of every year.

ALMOST WEEKLY SLOP – DON GUACAMOLES

July 28, 2009

donguac1

When I first heard about this spot on Robson, based on the name and the location I thought this place was going to suck like the Jimmy Fallon show but everyone I have talked to has said amazing things about this restaurant.
