ALMOST FAMOUS WITH LAINA RAUMA & ANGIE GILL!

August 24, 2009

angielainasam

Laina & Angie with Samuel Dalembert – NBA center for the Philadelphia 76ers

HOW DID THIS PHOTO OP COME ABOUT ?
Laina: Me & Angie (and our friends Michelle & Angel) were in New Orleans for my 23rd Birthday during All Star weekend. Yes, that’s right – we witnessed Dwight Howard become Superman at the Dunk Contest. On this particular night we decided to go out to a club called 360 where Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul were throwing a party. We ended up meeting and talking to Sam, who was beyond cool and down to earth. We got into talking about how happy he was that he had recently got his Canadian Citizenship – (he is from Haiti but grew up in Montreal) - after a few minutes of talking it ended up being us in the corner hollering ‘the Canadians are taking over the party!’ haha. Funny story. Really great guy.
Angie: What she said.

WHAT MAKES YOU ALMOST FAMOUS IN VANCOUVER ?
Laina: Hmmm aside from being a bar star? HA – JOKING!! We are in the process of starting up our company, Dope.Girl.Fresh. which is a girls clothing & accessories line of vintage, re-worked vintage and a small sprinkle of original pieces sewn by me.
Angie: I hope we’re known for starting a movement in this city for the ladies. There are so many talented, creative females here. We want to dress them all!

FAMOUS SIGHTINGS WHERE CAN WE SEE YOU NEXT ?
Laina:
We just had an event called ‘Ladies Night’ which was a shopping party/introduction to the gear. We will be fully up and running online at www.dopegirlfreshattire.com any day now!
Angie: Yup, online. Facebook, Twitter, all that. Look us up!

August 24, 2009

momentum_590

The West Coast Tour of The Bicycle Music Festival comes to Vancouver on Saturday, August 29th!

This one day event is guaranteed to be the best party for bicycles in Vancouver this summer!  100% pedal-powered sound and self-propelled movement.

The all-day event starts at New Brighton Park at 10am, moves to Crab Park for 2pm and then goes to the Museum of Vancouver at 5pm for more music and good times until 10pm!

There will be a beer garden and food at the Museum of Vancouver and for anyone who has not yet visited the Velo-City exhibit, the museum is staying open until 10pm for the party.  All festival goers can see the beautiful bike exhibit for 50% off the regular ticket price!  (Sorry, you can’t bring your beer through the exhibit!)

SKIM ZINE #4

August 24, 2009

I can’t remember if Jef Choy or SR have posted about this before but together they do a local skimboarding zine appropriately entitled “Skim”. They just released issue #4, and I would like you to download it HERE if you would like to, courtesy of V.I.A.’s bandwidth…

skimzine4

… then head down to Spanish Banks and either watch people skimboard or participate yourself. I haven’t been there myself for like 8 years but it’s good times, read the zine and find out.

52 WEEKS OF ‘EAST VAN CATS’ – WEEK 1

August 24, 2009

The cats rule East Vancouver. They’re everywhere…sidewalks, roads, hiding in doorways, supervising stores, sprawled out anywhere to have a bath. The cats I meet while wandering through East Van are probably all house-pets but it’s not clear who ‘owns’ them. Cats are all about territory, but all space is public to them.

week1

Stay tuned…When the project is finished I hope to have photographed every one of the East Van Cats!
