Roc Raida passed away yesterday, he was a Turntablist Innovator, Legendary Dj and a true Grand Master.
HOW DID THIS PHOTO OP COME ABOUT ?
Growing up I remember watching a VHS of the X-Ecutioners, Roc Raida’s dj crew vs. Skratch Piklz. He amazed me with his dj routines, the records that he used and the crazy body tricks he would do, such incredible skill! I became a fan right away and started buying his mixtapes, and going to his shows, I was so inspired as soon as I got home I would wake up my brother because I was trying to practice djing at 4am.
The first time I had the honor to meet Grandmaster Roc Raida was when I opened for The Beatnuts, Raida was their tour dj at that time, we chatted about music and I remember him loving Vancouver for the weed and girls (hehe). Not too long after that I deejayed with him at the legendary Friday night Get Up Get Down, that’s when this photo came about. It’s a tragedy loosing someone like Roc Raida he was an icon in the dj community. His legacy will live on through the people he inspired. Rest In Peace Grandmaster Roc Raida.
WHAT MAKES YOU ALMOST FAMOUS IN VANCOUVER ?
Not famous but so happy to be involved with an amazing music scene that we have here!
Vancouver is so awesome for its dj culture there are so many talented djs here to work and build off, its really motivating, and there is so much famous musical talent comes through Vancouver, that inspires me, I have had the honor to dj with some of the worlds greatest djs and hip hop acts like Nas, The Roots, Common, Clipse, DJ AM, Tittsworth and Questlove to name a few.
