Without question, Vancouver has a large and very vibrant Greek community. Luckily for the rest of us, the Greek people love to celebrate, hosting several festivals throughout the year at various locations across the city. This weekend, the Hellenic Community has been making merry at their Annual Greek Food Festival, which has been running for the past 32 years! The Hellenic Community Centre at 4500 Arbutus street has been transformed into a large "glendi" or party with great food, live music, dance performances and entertainment for all ages.
Stop by and enjoy a succulent roast lamb in the dining room, souvlaki in the taverna or feta fries upstairs in the ouzeri! Make sure to save room because there's also a kafenio (cafe) and bakery featuring an array of wonderful Greek desserts, not to mention a tent by the main entrance serving up fresh loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) with a smile! The final day of the festival opens at noon and wraps up at 10pm tonight.
