PEAK PERFORMANCE PROJECT – FREEFLOW

October 29, 2009
peakperformance The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver’s very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists.

Every year, twenty finalists from BC will receive an intensive, one week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion. From these, the top three will be crowned as the PEAK Performers of the year and will share $275,000 in cash for career development!

Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing you to all of this year’s participating artists with quick interviews about the project, the other artists, and a little bit of Vancouver! Vote now for your favourite top 19 at www.peakperformanceproject.com.

Next up is Freeflow from Vancouver. They’ll be playing The Cellar on October 29th (tonight!), and the only way to get into the showcase is by listening to 100.5 The Peak FM to win tickets! Limited tickets will also be released at the door.

freeflow

Who’s your favourite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?
That’s a hard question. You mean besides Freeflow? To Be honest, I don’t think I could pick one in particular. The PPP did such a great job in picking such diverse bands. I can truly say that I was blown away with every one of them.

What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?
Man, only 1 thing? I guess if I had to choose, it would have to be motivation. Being around such great talent you can’t help but …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

‘RISE N SHINE OG’

October 29, 2009

There’s a new, 5 part, comedic web series in town. “Rise ‘n Shine Og” premieres tomorrow at risenshineog.com and looks promising as local Vancouver TV star, Anita Smith (who is also the creator, writer, executive producer), works alongside funnyman Lesley Nielsen’s nephew, Robin Nielsen.

Here’s the teaser:

And Anita’s demo reel in case you don’t recognize her… …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

THE PROOF – CHRIS BENTZEN

October 29, 2009

Chris Bentzen is local creative that does a wide range of art, design and buttons. He also has helped create greater community by organizing art events like The Hot One Inch Action. “Create something out of nothing” seems to be his motto for living and it’s great to see people taking initiative to do more for Vancouver.

The Proof

1. A 1″ button I made.
2. I organize a show called Hot One Inch Action. (check link for details).
3. I do design/layout for Momentum magazine. I also enjoy tattoos – so I combined them and did an article about bike tattoos and got more tattoos in the process.
4. My bike stencil. I guess I really like bikes. I have too many of them but each serves a different purpose.
5. My homebuilt low-racer recumbent with my own custom recumbent bike gang stencilled flag – Hell Bent.

ANOTHER REASON TO GET EXCITED ABOUT 2010!

October 28, 2009

I recently read that with the construction they are doing on BC Place, the Lions and Whitecaps for their 2010 seasons, are maybe going to be playing at Empire Field!  My Hood just got that much better. It’s gonna be nutso, three out of our five major sports franchises within a block from my house. My jock self is just gonna get out of control: I’m breaking out the face paint, someone’s getting shoved in locker for sure. I’m not counting my chickens but man, that would be cool.
