DUMB HOCKEY QUESTION PART 4:
Why do most of the guys never sit down?

![]() |
SCENE AND HEARD is where Vancouver’s up and coming musicians sit down for a one-on-one interview with each other. Artist-on-Artist. What do they discuss? Anything and everything! Their favourite venues, where they go on dates, other Vancouver bands, their girl crushes, you name it… There will be two new artists every month! Have suggestions on who think should interview each other?, leave your comments below!… On a crisp autumn morning, in a busy Barney’s restaurant on South Granville, singer/songwriters Adaline and Nat Jay sip on tea and quickly catch up on some off-the-record girl-talk. Even though they live a few blocks away from each other in Fairview, and play in a collaborative folk band [The Prettiest Face In Town] the two haven’t seen much of each other over the last few months; Jay just finished up some co-writing in Los Angeles and Adaline is knee-deep in the Peak’s Performance Project competition. On top of this they have their civilian lives, including their working stiff jobs and love lives… |

DATING IN VANCOUVER:
A: “You can ask me about my love life…I’ll expose it.”
NJ: “So Adaline, tell me about your love life.” …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>
Below is the official coat of arms of the City Of Vancouver. It’s used on official city business type of stuff, and it is ridiculously awesome.
Are you an illustrator? How would you feel about drawing up a coat of arms for Vancouver Is Awesome Inc, to be used on official V.I.A. business type of stuff?
If your answer is that you would feel really good about that, then hop to it! Think traditional coat of arms style, kinda like this one below but different.
Draw us up our very own coat of arms and send it to contact@vancouverisawesome.com before Tuesday, November 10th. We can’t pay you money for it but if we use your design we will thank you up and down, sing your praises on the site, link to you, send you some cool stuff in the mail and also you’ll be an official Guest Of Honor at our next party, coming up in December.

In related news, voting is now closed for our BUTTON DESIGN CONTEST and we should have the actual physical buttons in our hands very shortly. Thanks again to all who entered, we’ll keep you posted!

The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver’s very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists.
Every year, twenty finalists from BC will receive an intensive, one week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion. From these, the top three will be crowned as the PEAK Performers of the year and will share $275,000 in cash for career development! |
Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing you to all of this year’s participating artists with quick interviews about the project, the other artists, and a little bit of Vancouver! Vote now for your favourite top 19 at www.peakperformanceproject.com.
Next up is Run The Red Light from Vancouver. They’ll be playing The Cellar on October 29th, and the only way to get into the showcase is by listening to 100.5 The Peak FM to win tickets! Limited tickets will also be released at the door.

Who’s your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?
We Are The City – They are amazing performers, musicians and songwriters and they are all so young! To top it off they are incredibly nice people. Completely sincere at what they do.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?
Networking! Musicians all face the same struggles to achieve their goals. It is so valuable networking with …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>
I’m pretty sure there’s money to be made in buying tickets to Vancouver Pecha Kucha nights as soon as they go on sale and then selling them in front of the Park Theatre on Cambie street. What I’m saying is, PK8 is likely sold out by this point so I hope you bought tickets already. See you this Thursday, I’ll be the guy asking everybody if they’re buying or selling! Kidding, of course, but maybe I’ll see you there?

If you’re new, click HERE to see all of our previous posts on Pecha Kucha and what it’s all about.
There are so many awesome photos that you’ve added to our FLICKR POOL that we can no longer pick just one a week, so from now on we’re going to be showcasing one every single day!

Right now we’re doing a cross-promotion through Vancouver Is Awesome and my local t-shirt brand, Crownfarmer, where we’re giving V.I.A. readers free shipping on all orders! The discount code is VIA102009. Enter it upon checkout at Crownfarmer.com to receive 20% off, which is actually a little better than free shipping.
The brand wasn’t always local, in fact it started in Los Angeles in 2002 and was on a brief hiatus until 5 weeks ago when we relaunched with a weekly t-shirt program: one t-shirt drop by one designer per week for the rest of time.
This week’s t-shirt, which just dropped today, was designed by the one and only Jeff Hamada of Booooooom.com (and the recent Here Is Now show that V.I.A. co-sponsored)! The other four designs are pictured right, click over to Crownfarmer.com to get a closer look. Also check out the about section over there to get a little bit of insight on the brand and where we’ve been.
