Today's dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver are Kentucky and Alabama, Janna S's pups. Here's what she had to say about them...

BREED: Black & Tan Coonhounds.

HOOD: Grandview-Woodlands, in and around Commercial Drive.

FAVORITE SNACK: Raw beef bones from Rio Friendly Meats on Hastings Street. Next favourite would be bull seminal tubes from either Sophia's Pet Palace or Mark's Pet Stop on the Drive.

OTHER INFO: Both of these pups are from the American Black & Tan Coonhound Rescue. Black & Tan Coonhounds are an agile, medium sized (60 lb females, 75 lb males), scent hound, originally breed in the Appalachian Mountains and ideally suited to British Columbia weather and terrain. They have BIG voices but use them infrequently in domestic settings or frequently and with purpose if working on a track. Their job is to Tree or drive prey to water. What happens then is up to the person; the Coonhounds work ethic is to keep the prey in the Tree or in the Water until their person arrives. They're a no-kill hound so have very reliable soft mouths with children and other pets. Our Black & Tans are trained to sit and receive a cookie as their Treeing reward. As Treening hounds, don't be surprised to look up and find a Black & Tan in or on a Tree near you!

When not enjoying the many smells of Vancouver, Kentucky and Alabama are store dogs at Womyns'Ware Inc. They work behind the scenes in the offices, spreading goodwill amongst the staff and participating in applicant interviews. Their favourite scent is racoons up in the Boulevard Trees or Upper Balconies in the Hood.
