artsydartsy_via Greetings Vancouver is Awesome readers! We here at Artsy-Dartsy are proud to be new contributors to VIA.

A brief background on us: We are Linus and Denise. So pleased to meet you! We love art and design, hence we started a website called Artsy-Dartsy.com to help people like us find out about art and design events in our awesome city of Vancouver!

This week there are tons of great events happening. For the full listing please head to Artsy-Dartsy.com.

Gallery Atsui (602 East Hastings) is a great independently funded artist studio and gallery space owned and operated by Alex Grewal, Sascha Yamashita and Todd Nickel. This week Friday, Nov 6, at 8pm, they are having an art opening for a show call the Evolution of Inspiration. With Dawkins’ questions in mind and coinciding with the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birth, as well as November 2009 being the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s seminal work On the Origin of Species, Gallery Atsui is thrilled to present an exhibition of art influenced by science, featuring new and original works by: Verena Kaminiarz, Mark Mushet, Sonja Hebert, Jesse Gray, Suzanne Kay, Helen Eady, Patrick Blaeser.

212A Artist Run Centre (221 East Georgia St @ Main) is having a one-day exhibition Saturday, Nov 7, at 7pm. This is an non-juried opened exhibition that invites everyone to stop by their space on Nov 6th to hang art work related to the theme. The theme on Saturday is ‘Corner.’ Pairings: cornered, watch the corner, go to the corner, sit in the corner, at the corner of, outside corner, inside corner, kiddy corner, angle, concave, curve, intersection, for corners. 212A Artist Run Centre has got the one-day exhibit down to a science.

How it works:
1. Theme announced.
2. Work, interviews, reviews, resources, readings is/are produced/prepared/recorded/written/collected/selected by you and us.
3. Work submitted/installed/prepared one day prior from 2:00pm – 8:00pm.
4. Food & drink cooked/prepared/purchased potluck format.
5. Event held with all of above at 8:00pm – 11:00pm.
6. Work de-installed/cleaned/removed by 11:30pm.
7. Pact collateral collected and assembled into web publication.

Other notable on-goings: Emily Carr University is having a Flesh and the Frame closing reception Friday. We love attending these to admire the up and coming talents of our city. Also the famous Hot One Inch Action is happening on Saturday at a new location, the W2 Perel Gallery on 112 West Hastings.
