Vincent Park
Established 2008
www.vincentpark.ca

Over the past year sisters Lauren and Cara Stryer have been working on continuing their family’s legacy on Main Street. Transforming part of their parents’ old antique shop into Vincent Park, a destination for cult brands in Vancouver, the two are just now coming up on their one year birthday. Brands such as Cheap Monday, Mined Rd, FluXus, LA Made, Fred Perry, Something Else, Mink Pink, Alternative Apparel, Eryn Brinie and more grace the hangers and shelves complimented by classy decor, revolving artwork, a photo booth and a welcoming vibe. Make a point of venturing a couple blocks north of 25th Ave to pay them a visit, you’ll be glad you did!

Blim Market Vendor Spotlight NOVEMBER: Hand & Shadow

November 27, 2009

November’s Blim Market heartily welcomes the return of Georgie Russell and her Hand and Shadow line of handcrafted textiles.

A graduate of Emily Carr Institute, Georgie utilizes both found images and her own original drawings in the creation of her pieces (particularly beautiful is her careful and delicate hand drawn rendition of an ownerless hairdo). Unisex T-shirts, scarves and other accessories are made in small, hand produced batches from Georgie’s East Vancouver studio. This controlled production allows for slight variations that bring uniqueness to each piece.

As befits her artistic background, Georgie gives particular care and attention to the nature and quality of the materials she uses. Hand & Shadow T-shirts are made from organic cotton, and many of her pieces are screened using pigment and discharge paste as an alternative to less environmentally friendly traditional screen print inks.

Blim Market is this Sunday, November 29

11-5 PM

Cambrian Hall, 215 East 17th. Avenue (17th & Main)

FOOD FAIR FRIDAY! TINSELTOWN!

November 27, 2009

I think when they first opened Tinseltown there were some pretty high hopes that it would become a big shopping destination.  I don’t think that’s happened, but I kinda like how it turned out better.  Personally, I like going to the Daiso, the matinee/free parking combo, closest sev and bathroom to the skateboard plaza, the art gallery where someone you know always has something showing there, and well…you guessed it, the food fair!

I’m backing India’s Flavour heavily here.  I know it’s the sweet and sour pork of Indian cuisine, but I can’t say no to a butter chicken combo here.  I think it’s like 7 bucks with a pop which makes my lunch limit of six bucks, the pop falls under my beverage budget.  Although I always get the same thing, it’s cool to see the stuff in front of you that you’re missing out on, they have the big vats of curry right up front for you to eyeball.  I think it’s a splendid way to dine.

And it looks like I’m not the only fan of this place either, Tegan Quin rates this place as an all time fave!

THANK YOU!

November 27, 2009

drive-is-over

Despite a slow start we hammered you for the past ten days with reasons why we really needed you to donate to our not-for-profit. We cranked up our efforts and I am happy to say that in the end so did you! If you personally made a donation then you are partly responsible for keeping our positive vision alive and we appreciate it BIGTIME. THANK YOU!

Over the coming days we’ll be mailing out your pin packs/bumper stickers and doing draws for the raffle prizes. If you win something we will contact you by e-mail and… well… you actually just did win something: We’ve decided that everybody who donated during the drive will also be put on the guest list for our Flickn Awesome party that’s happening next week, so we can all celebrate how you’ve helped V.I.A. keep the lights on into 2010!

Thanks again, Vancouver! V.I.A. literally owes it’s life to you, the kind folks who have helped keep it alive.

If you’re coming in late to the donor drive and would still like to donate then fret not, you can click the button below to make a late donation. You won’t be entered into the raffle to win any of the prizes but you will be helping us out, and that would be really awesome of you. And if you didn’t notice it before, the DONATE button has always lived on the site and it will always live on the site, so in the future if you’ve ever got some extra cash to donate to the cause, please do not hesitate to give it a click.
