Thousands braved November rain for this years Eastside Culture Crawl

November 26, 2009

Having just relocated back to Vancouver, this was my very first Eastside Culture Crawl experience. My first impression was that the event was really cool and very well organized.

If you haven’t scoped out this event it basically works like this:
You get yourself an event map or go to the event web site where you have the opportunity to research the various art studios / artists that are participating. Then you hit the road and pick your own adventure…

This annual (free) visual arts festival allows the public a 3 day glimpse into the lives of 300+ local artists (disbursed throughout east Van) who transform their personal workspace into mini galleries.

I’m looking forward to seeing next years event!

Check out a few photos from day 2 (11.21.2009).

dace spring 2010

November 26, 2009

One of my favorite parts of the fashion industry is the crazy timelines and schedules for showing seasonal wear.

For example, yes it sure feels like Vancouver winter has arrived, it is getting damn cold outside and no one is excited for the many months of rain to come, but the fashion world is here as the light at the end of that gloomy tunnel!

When you can feel that annual seasonal depression comin on, just hit the internet, or any fashion event and see all the SPRING wear that is being previewed! Yes people, spring is NOT that far away, so hang in there and check out how great you’re going to look next year in all these new spring designs!

DACE had their Spring 2010 preview at the very lovely Opus Hotel and Bar last week and here are some pics of the line:

BACK + FORTH AT LUCKY’S COMICS

November 25, 2009

FROM SEAN CRANBURY:

If you’re down with wordless graphic novels crafted on finest paper, linocuts and transformative journeys then you should be kicking it at Lucky’s Comics on Main Street this Friday night at 7pm!

bandf_poster

Friday, November 27th at Lucky’s Comics on Main Street is the date and time for your chance to meet the charming and talented artist/writer/linocutist Marta Chudolinska (that’s pronounced Hoo-doh-linska as in the Guess Who).

She’s in Vancouver from balmy Toronto to launch her new wordless graphic novel Back + Forth (A Novel in 90 Linocuts). It’s gorgeous, check the poster below to confirm.

It’s a story of emotional and physical journeys. Vancouver and Toronto landmarks are beautifully rendered in 90 blocks of sublime evocation. Her publisher, Porcupine’s Quill, have done an amazing job with the book. The paper and print quality are their usual high standard.

Marta has brought some of the blocks with her and will be doing something with them at Lucky’s that night. I’m not sure what she’s going to do but it’s probably gonna be magical.

So come check it out. This Friday @ 7. See you there.
