BLOWIN’ UP YOUR SPOT: QUE PASA!

December 31, 2009

I was first introduced to Que Pasa when they had a deli and retail outlet on W. 3rd.  I skated the West Beach  mini ramp regularly and sessions were commonly followed by a $5 burrito at Que Pasa.  I can’t tell you how many of them I have eaten over the course of my life.

If you aren’t familiar with them, Que Pasa is a local company, which manufactures some of the best taco chips as well as pre-cooked meals.  You can find their products all over town.

The ramp and outlet on 3rd have both been gone for awhile now, but I was pleased to see that they still run a similar outfit on 5 rd. in Richmond, just on the other side of the tunnel.  If you’re out in that neck of the woods, you have to give it a try!

COUP SALON

December 31, 2009

I went and got a haircut at Coup Salon earlier this week. The only business in Vancouver with an address in Shanghai Alley, Coup has been open since May and even though it’s kinda tucked into a street you may never even knew existed it’s kinda hard to miss if you’re passing by on Pender. Here’s a shot of Rosie, my new hairdresser, getting styled by Missy, one of the other two folks who work there…

The space is in a heritage building which was once a barber shop and the current buildout was constructed with recovered wood and recycled furniture. It’s a cozy little spot just inside of Chinatown… …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>

FOOD FIGHT! SAMMIES!

December 30, 2009

My favourite deli recently changed hands, and I’m glad to see they still stack the meat an inch thick on their sammies.  I swear when they grill them, the center is still cold cause there is just too much meat.

That’s not to say I don’t mess with a cold cut combo on a regular basis, but there are so many great delis around the city that you just want to try them all making sure no stone goes unturned.

What’s your favourite sandwich spot?

CEFA CLOTHES FOR KIDS DRIVE

December 30, 2009

Our friends over at cefa (Core Education & Fine Arts™) are holding a clothing drive right now…

cefaclothesforkids

Some things you won’t learn from this flier are that the clothing is going to The Crabtree Corner, a non profit organization that helps single mothers and their families in transition. All of the clothing is washed by cefa’s students and their families and given to the recipients with a personalized letter, none of the items will be resold. Lastly, all of the non-cefa children that donate (and their families) get passes to a movie that will be held at one of their locations. Give and receive. Nice.

Learn more at the cefa site.

R.D. Hollers from So-Cal

December 30, 2009

If you’ve got 8 minutes and 20 seconds on your hands, click here for a video interview with North Delta’s Ryan Decenzo, who recently turned pro for Darkstar skateboards. He’s currently residing in SoCal, but misses Vancouver’s fresh air…”I don’t like the smog in LA at all,” he says. “It bums me out.”
