Mystery on Drake Street….

POSTED December 7, 2009 BY Jef Choy
Tweet

I was walking around my old block the other day in Yaletown and I noticed these flags painted on the sidewalk on Drake near Seymour.

Anyone know what it’s about?

They’re all over granville/broadway too…pretty sure it’s just olympic decorations as they’re flags from numerous different countries…

  • Jerry Barker

Oh my goodness. Vancouver IS awesome.

  • Toby

They’re a South Granville Merchants (and other Merchant associations) initiative in hopes of attracting wandering tourists. They hope they will see their countries’ flag and follow others to whatever stores they lead to.

Sounds to me like VIA should make a few of their own and lead folks to something awesome!!!

    It’s for Flag Walk – http://www.flagwalk.ca

These are the first awesome preperations towards the Olympic Games!
The decals connect the Olympic Live Sites with Yaletown and South Granville. On the streets you can see decals of the flags of all competing nations.

Check it out on http://www.falgwalk.ca or http://www.yaletowninfo.com

    leichenstein!!

  • Jef Choy

Cool….Thanks…I hope they keep ‘em around….

  • Richard

Yep, those are all over Yaletown – especially lower Robson (Robson/Cambie up to Hamilton and along Hamilton). All the Canadian flags are hot pink, not red.

  • N.

That’s part of the Flag of Lichtenstein, South of my Country. -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichtenstein
It has something to do with the Olympics next Year… -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnk8sWQ8HnE

  • Jenn

    Nope, you are all wrong.

Those countries are silently taking over the city, hunk of pavement by hunk of pavement. Representatives from France, Italy, and the USA were already caught at customs smuggling brushes and paint sets. Keep your eyes on the streets, more manifest-destiny surely follows suit…

  • Julio Aguilar

IT is a Yaletown and South Granville promotion type thing. They want to capitalize on the Olympics but legally can’t use any Olympic Images.
There is a contest too! http://www.thecancouversuncontests.com

Apparently they are “The Official Sponsors of Friendship”

The flagwalk thing is cool – what an amazing idea. Good for Yaletown/South Granville – someone is very creative to do this. Way to keep Vancouver coooooool.
