Two nights ago Tegan and Sara kicked off their Canadian tour at the Orpheum in the first of two consecutive nights they played at that amazing venue. Take a look at the tour poster with locations and dates HERE.
I've been a fan since the 90's and am always excited at the opportunity to see them play live. As is to be expected of any decent artist their musical style has evolved over the years and if I had to boil it down to an 8 word description of it's evolution I'd say that "it's not as folksy as it once was". But the true spirit of "folk" - or at least my personal definition of it ala Utah Phillips - has always remained with them as a good portion of the magic at their shows happens between songs. Not to take anything away from their music but they interact with the audience, tell stories (to us and, sometimes, to each other) and make the "folks" feel genuinely welcome to be sharing a night with them, and it is quite an awesome thing to be a part of.
I would have brought you a video clip of one of the "in between songs" moments mentioned but I was too busy enjoying them. It's a good thing we sent Jenn Perutka to shoot these photos of the night!
