Out in the Streets, They Call it …Couva

February 26, 2010

After missing out on the Matisyahu show earlier at Livecity Yaletown (Feb. 15), I def had to check out a gig there before its all said and done. I had my sights set on the Damian Marley show on Wednesdy night ever since the lineup was announced before the Games. And who better than Junior Gong to carry the spirit of this global gathering in a vibe of peace and bumpin groove? I was hoping K’naan (who played last night at the Orpheum as part of the Cultural Olympiad), who toured with Marley, may have made a special guest appearance but it wasnt to be. Wonder if Marley may have made the appearance at the K’naan show instead? Check out this link for footage and vlogs from both Marley and K’naan from their tour together (courtesy of K’naan’s Vancouver based management and media production team, Direct Current Media). DCM’s Sol Guy had some pretty positive words about touring with Marley.

Stars with Hey Rosetta at the Orpheum
POST YOUR ONE WORD SHOW REVIEWS!

February 26, 2010

Have you been getting out to see any of the music shows that are a part of the Cultural Olympiad? How about the shows at the free venues? I had a chance to check out Stars with Hey Rosetta at the Orpheum and if I must use one word to sum it up I would say that the show was “beautiful”. Post the name of the band you saw over the past couple of weeks along with your one word reviews in the comments!

Lions Gate Mittens Deux

February 26, 2010

Randy’s POST about the Lion’s Gate Lions wearing red mittens was a popular one on Twitter a couple days ago, making the rounds being re-tweeted a few times, and just yesterday The National Post picked up on it and featured it as a story on their site! Click below to see it…

Also, are you following us on Twitter or what? We’re @viawesome over there.

DAILY FLICKR PICKR – DAY 127
Our Olympic Coverage… YOUR Olympic Coverage!

February 25, 2010

Contrary to our original plan of simply gleaning peripheral stories here and there, we’ve actually got quite a bit of coverage of the 2010 Games planned now. We’ve got folks attending a bunch of Cultural Olympiad shows, we’re blogging from our Awesome Showcase at Shine delivering stories from out-of-towners and their experiences in our city and even though we’re not accredited to shoot any sporting events some of us are attending a couple as fans with point and shoot cameras. Plus you probably noticed that it just keeps coming in from all directions. Go figure.

All of that being said, I think what I’m most excited to report to you is that our DAILY FLICKR PICKR series of photos that we post from our Flickr pool will be all Olympics themed until the closing ceremonies. Every day we’ll be bringing a new image that one of you has uploaded to our pool that is somehow Games related, making our Olympic coverage your Olympic coverage!

So join our Flickr group and upload your photos!

Today’s DAILY FLICKR PICKR is another photo courtesy of P Squared Pics, and the title is “Around the Corner they Come!!!”:

An Awesome Showcase: Day Fourteen

February 25, 2010

WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING THIS?…Woman’s Hockey is on! We’ve been watching that and the men’s curling semi final (which is also still on…and we’re winning).

I’m still blown away by the great art that has been up on these walls for the past two weeks! If you haven’t see it you’ve missed out…but fear not, Visual Art is up for 3 more days…

Grab your raincoat and head down to Gastown!
