I got a last minute call from our friends at HelloBC.com on Saturday asking if I wanted two tickets to the medal ceremonies that night, and of course I said yes! The part that I didn’t realize, and that they didn’t either, is that the actual ceremony was in Whistler that night, and the event in BC Place (which was jam packed!) was like a live simulcast on three massive screens. Regardless of that it was amazing being there in that setting, Olympic flag waving and people stoked to stand when the national anthems of the respective winning countries came on.
We arrived a couple minutes late, just in time to see Canada’s own skeleton gold winner, Jon Montgomery, kissing his medal on the big screen…

My poorly-stitched-together overview shot…

Canada won 4 medals in the 2010 Winter Games today! Two in women’s bobsleigh, one in ladies’ short track speed skating relay and another in speed skating ladies’ 5000M!!!

NOTE: these are not Olympic medals pictured above, nor are they intended to look like them. They’re Canada Is Awesome badges of awesomeness!
Hey everybody! It’s me, Arlo, again! I’m V.I.A.’s youngest blogger, I just turned one year old a couple months ago and you can see all of my previous posts about life as a baby in Vancouver HERE.
Were you glued to the TV last night watching Team Canada beat Germany in that men’s hockey game? I was! Okay, I wasn’t really… I was mostly chasing my puppy dog around the living room, squealing and finding things to put in my mouth but I did look up at the TV a couple times because I like to watch those little guys zip up and down that big white sheet of ice.
The Canada VS Russia game starts in 5 minutes and we have to win it or we’re out of the tournament! What are you doing on the computer? Go cheer for Canada!

Oh, and remember my last post where I hinted about that secret thing about shoes? In case you haven’t been paying attention it’s not a secret anymore… you can drop your used shoes off at the Robson street Nike store (where my dad picked up this awesome toddler-sized jersey for me) and at 5 other locations around town so that they can be turned into a playing surface somewhere in Vancouver! Drop off your shoes at one of these Vancouver locations and leave your footprint on the city!:

Contrary to our original plan of simply gleaning peripheral stories here and there, we’ve actually got quite a bit of coverage of the 2010 Games planned now. We’ve got folks attending a bunch of Cultural Olympiad shows, we’re blogging from our Awesome Showcase at Shine delivering stories from out-of-towners and their experiences in our city and even though we’re not accredited to shoot any sporting events some of us are attending a couple as fans with point and shoot cameras. Plus you probably noticed that it just keeps coming in from all directions. Go figure.
All of that being said, I think what I’m most excited to report to you is that our DAILY FLICKR PICKR series of photos that we post from our Flickr pool will be all Olympics themed until the closing ceremonies. Every day we’ll be bringing a new image that one of you has uploaded to our pool that is somehow Games related, making our Olympic coverage your Olympic coverage!
So join our Flickr group and upload your photos!
Today’s DAILY FLICKR PICKR is another photo courtesy of Christina Taylor (the first time anybody’s ever had back to back Daily Flickrs selected), and the title is “In the spirit of the Games”:

It’s Day 13 and we’re entering the home stretch…which also means the gallery has rotated and now the Visual Art is up on the wall. Despite my bias, seeing as I have photos in the photography section, I think the work that is up on the walls is AMAZING. If you’re reading this, you should come down and see it before it is too late!

You might notice that a LOT of these are verticals…I did!
GO CANADA GO!

Yesterday’s Daily Flickr Pickr image was of CBC Radio 3 host, Grant Lawrence, with Nardwuar hanging out in front of the CBC building “in” the Chalet CBC Radio 3. They’ve been broadcasting live outside all day every day since the games started and have been doing interviews with a bunch of interesting musicians, other folks involved with independent music in Canada as well as some random interesting guests. Anybody can go down and hang out and watch/listen, you should keep an eye out on the R3 blog and go down to check out the guests that they announce throughout the day.

Yesterday I headed down to the Chalet to watch Grant interview Loel Campbell and Mike Bigelow of Wintersleep when I heard they’d be there. During the interview they announced that their new album is coming out May 18th and is called New Inheritors. Nice!

Wintersleep played a free show at LiveCity Yaletown last night with the Constantines. Did you go?
