UNCLE FATIH’S PIZZA!
There are two distinct types of pizza in the city, there’s places like Me-n-Ed’s, and then there’s the buck a slice category. I’m sure there is cheap pizza all over North America, but I think Vancouver has brought it up a notch…in some ways. I know at least whenever people from other parts of Canada come here, they comment on how many of them there are. There’s even a chain that advertises, ‘Vancouver style Pizza!’ At first I wondered if this is something to be proud of, but I am now….I don’t eat it very often, but I’m glad we have so many buck a slices, those times where I’m starving and feel like I have no options..it’s always there for me.
Pizza garden on Commercial and Uncle Fatih’s on Commercial and Broadway are my two favourite spots, Megabites falls into my category of best chain. What determines a good buck a slice place to me is so simple, it has to be busy. If it’s busy, it’s fresh, and if it’s fresh, it’s good. Most restaurants, if there’s a line, I don’t go, sometimes I even ‘baahhhh’ at people in line, buck a slice is the opposite, if there’s no line, I don’t go.
People out front…always a good sign.
I’ve heard they’re opening another one on Main Street, they also have a location in the West End. I used to have favourite toppings but for whatever reason freshness is that much more important to me, so I just get whatever came out of the oven most recently.
I know there’s hundreds more….what’s your buck a slice spot and how many do you think you’ve tried?

Hmmm, I like your busy vs not busy reasoning.

Great call!
I too use the busy vs not busy theory.
Often I use a different complex algorithm containing the variables;
1. My present location
2. Time of day/night
3. Volume of Alcohol consumed
Warning! This formula produces highly varied results.

Fresh slice!
Esp those pizzas that use the white garlic sauce instead of tomato. Mmmm!

one of my faves – the one on seymour and pender, on the north east corner. there are quite a few on that block but this one is far superior!

I might be the only person on the planet who does not like Uncle Fatih’s. They don’t use enough sauce or cheese or something. I always walk on by and go to the Fresh Slice around the corner. I, too, am a fan of the white garlic sauce.

There must be a post about the top ten pizza places. Currently I could probably list of twenty locations, but I need to find the cheapest and the best bang for your buck. I eat this shit too many times a week and I need a guide, perhaps my summer project.

If we’re talking cheap pizza, Montreal has Vancouver beat hands down. 99 cent cheese slices… everywhere. Vancouver pizza isn’t necessarily cheaper, relative to other Canadian cities (I’d say it’s pretty even). Uncle Fatih’s is the shit, btw.

Doesn’t matter where you go as long as they have garlic sauce (megabite) or ranch (uncle fatih’s). doesn’t matter what slice you get, what flavour, how fresh is, the sauce makes even the shittiest pizza taste like awesome. so just find the cheapest place.

Uncle Fatih’s is my favourite – I practically lived off it during university. It’s location is highly conducive to quick pizza turnover. If you order by freshness, you can’t go wrong. Timing is everything.

every now and then I think no one reads this….and then I do a pizza post and I know everything is in order….

I’m so happy Pizza Pizza’s in town.
I heard they just opened their 4th location – newest one in New Westminster. You cant beat their whole wheat multigrain dough and wings are unbelievable!

No more buck a slice pizza left in Vancouver! They’re all climbing up to $2! Still, some good cheap eats.

Seymour & Pender has to be the pizza hub of the city. The second place in on the N.E. corner sells a slice, samosa and a pop for 3 dollars!

If you’re drunk, let’s face it, pizza is pizza. If you’re sober then pizza takes on a whole new meal-meaning and finding good pizza should be an adventure enjoyed to the fullest, much like that last cigarette in your pack at 2am, or the coffee-smoke first thing in the morning. There is only one pizza rule…Any pizza that costs less than .99 should not be eaten! Buck a slice is already ridiculously cheap, so why go to .88 cents? Don’t do it!

I make my own pizza margerita from a Martha Stewart recipe. Super awesome! Hit me up for the recipe LOL

Uncle Fatih’s defines the Commercial Drive area for me. No matter what activity you are about to do, what time it is, how late you are, or how drunk you are you can always manage to eat.
Very important!

I drove by that place hundreds of times, marveling at the huge lineup… just knew it had to be excellent
one of the few times I walked by it, I had to try, and so worth it – not quite on par with The Wicked Wedge in Calgary, but far better than The Flying Wedge (here)
