Our bud, Dan Mangan, and friends are playing a benefit at the Polish Hall this Saturday for Aunt Leah’s Society. Basically they’ll all be playing Beatles cover songs, and it should prove to be quite awesome. Click HERE for details and to purchase tickets.

In what is perhaps the most unexpected High Fiving Celebrities post to date, I present a high five from the Member of Parliament for Vancouver South, formerly Minister of Health, BC Attorney General, and 33rd Premier of British Columbia, Mr Ujjal Dosanjh, whom I ran into at Starbucks.

The Lab Magazine is an arts-focused mag published here in Vancouver. It’s new, and I recently had a chance to ask the founders/editorial directors a few questions via email. I’ll let Justin Close and Jeremy Regimbal tell you their story.

First came the sushi place…then the izakayas…now it’s ramen.  Vancouver loves it’s Japanese food.  A recent example of this is the 500 block of Robson which used to house Cafe S’il Vous Plait, now has a Beard Papas, Kushi Box, the yet to open Japadog flagship restaurant, and the recently opened Gyudonya.  They just took over…..

At first I thought Gyudonya was a new ramen place which shows you how well I understand Japanese.  When I found out it was actually a ‘beef bowl’ place I was disappointed.  Beef bowl?  Like Teriyaki bowl?  I had bad memories of that time I made the mistake of ordering one from Jack ‘n the Box.  It was just wrong.

The construction seemed to take forever though and longer it took, the more open I became to trying it.  Finally last week I had a chance to get down there at lunch.

Did you notice how during the Games the lights on Science World were red and… um… possibly blue? Green,maybe? I remember noticing that they weren’t just “light” coloured like they were before and it looks as though they’ve changed em back now. Grant Harder caught the transition and shot this photo entitled “Changing Light Bulbs“.
