10 Days Across Canada, 1 night only

April 27, 2010

Tomorrow night the film “10 Days Across Canada” will be screening in 20 Canadian theatres. The premise is simple: 4 dudes drove across the country and asked people “What does it mean to be Canadian?”. The trailer is below, the web site is HERE and the film is playing at SIlvercity Metropolis tomorrow, for one night only, at 7PM.

“We had a great time travelling and filming in Vancouver and BC”, said John Earle, the director of the film. It includes interviews with people on the streets of Vancouver as well as former BC Lion Lui Passaglia.

IDEA 2010 GRAD SHOW OPENING

April 27, 2010

The opening of Capilano University’s IDEA program grad show was last night and there were a lot of eager young graduates ready to take on the world of illustration and design. There was a mix of concepts and visuals and no one student had the same way of creating a solution to a design problem. The show is up at Harbour Centre until April 30. It is running concurrently as a special event for ICOGRADA’s Design Week Vancouver.

The Grad show is at 555 West Hastings, just as you go down the escalator to get up to The Lookout.

Hannah Georgas’ debut album, This is Good, released today!

April 27, 2010

Yesterday I showcased all of the artists who have put together guest playlists for us over the past 4 months. Hannah Georgas was one of first ones who put together a playlist of all of her favourite songs from Vancouver artists, and I don’t doubt that as we keep doing this series her name and songs will start appearing more and more on people’s playlists. She won CBC Radio 3′s 2009 Bucky Award for Best New Artist and her debut full length album is releasing today. Have a listen to Hannah on her Myspace then track down a copy of her new album online or at pretty much every record store in town!

Official Canucks Day in Vancouver!

April 27, 2010

Last year mayor Gregor grew a playoff beard, this year he’s taking it one step further today at noon…

“On April 27, we are all Canucks! Join Mayor Gregor Robertson and Vancouver City Council in proclaiming Tuesday, April 27, 2010 as Canucks Day and raising the team flag at the north side of City Hall at noon. The Canucks mascot, Fin, will hand out white towels to help the public cheer on the city’s home team. Come out and bring your Canucks gear!”

STUFF I GIVE AWAY IN MY ALLEY! HOW IT WENT DOWN!

April 26, 2010

A few weeks ago I made this post about things that I leave in my alley, and posed the question of which order the items would be taken in and why. Well, I apologize for the delay, it wasn’t fair to keep you guys in suspense…..we had a few technical difficulties here at VIA, and I’ve also spent some time studying the results in hopes of getting into the psyche of someone who might take something from an alley… I think I’ve now realized, that person is not much different than the guy who takes photos and blogs about it.

So for those who, like me, waste their brain cells on dumb stuff like this, and for those who have no problem wasting the next five minutes of their life…..click below for how it went down….and my analysis.

LRG ‘Give Me My Money Chico’ video premiere re-cap

April 26, 2010

So last Wednesday we held the LRG ‘Give Me My Money Chico’ video premiere at Sup Fu? Wednesdays at Fortune Sound Club. I was super happy as a good 500 people showed up to support. LRG was nice enough to send Chico Brenes, Jack Curtin, Kelly Hart and Rodrigo Peterson to represent alongside or locals boys Dustin Montie and Chad Dickson were in the house. Good times were had by all as the dance party followed. Yeah I could have used a photo of all the skaters with their arms around each other, but I like this photo. To see the photos I’m talking about, click HERE.
