While there’s just tons of stuff going on tomorrow….don’t forget that we, VIA are hosting a soccer team challenge. Yes….we are challenging you to come out and HANG OUT WITH US in the presence of a soccer ball.
And hey…if a soccer game ensues….we could use the practice for the up and coming LIVECUP
Come by around noon….there’s tons of other stuff going on too, but do come by and say hi, and maybe kick a ball around with us! See ya tomorrow!

Wear your love for Vancity with a sweet t-shirt from Geographic Apparel!

Wearing this t-shirt is no guarantee you will look as cool as this guy does. But it’s a start.
The people behind some of the coolest Vancentric tees you’ll ever see are launching their new line and website on Canada Day. Read more about and have a look at some of their glorious designs here and here.
As part of the celebration Vancouver is Awesome has this funky shirt to give away to one lucky patriot at tomorrow’s Canada Day Jamboree in Strathcona Park. It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s a fantastic way to spend the day partying with your fellow comrades on our national holiday. Read all about it here.

It’s about that time again, people. Canada turns 143 tomorrow, and North Vancouver’s legendary Seylynn snake run (in Seylynn Park on Hunter St – 1/2 block west of Mountain Hwy) hosts the 16th annual Bowl Series Canada Day kick-off. See you there!

The evening’s producers from Cause+Affect, Jane and Steven Cox.
Last Wednesday the Queen Elizabeth Theatre was the place to be as over 2500+(!) Vancouverites concerned with all matters of sustainability converged downtown to be inspired, educated, and enlightened at a very special edition of Pecha Kucha Night. The evening’s presentations centered around the greater conversation the city is having as part of our Greenest City 2020 campaign, which you can read more about here.

Mayor Gregor Robertson. He’s the man.
Our fearless (he does ride a bike to get around, after all) mayoral leader introduced the evening and made a presentation about the Greenest City 2020 Campaign. The ultra-hip (and kinda hippie) crowd cheered when slides highlighting new urban composting programs were screened, and the overall vibe in the room was one of positive excitement. My own personal “Moment of Awesome” (other than the shout-out Vancouver is Awesome got for being such an awesome media sponsor) for the evening goes to Mayor Gregor himself, who slayed me every time he said “Pecha Kucha;” specifically the time when he injected it with a Southern twang. For the record, it’s actually pronounced “Puh-CHACH-Kah,” and is Japanese slang for “chit chat.”
The Old Familiar is Jon Bunyan’s private musical empire. For the past several years, Bunyan has been a name in the Vancouver music scene, most notably playing with the Canadian prog-rock sensation, Bend Sinister. Over several North American tours, Bunyan honed his songwriting skills with Bend Sinister, garnering awards such as CBC’s “Top Ten Songs of 2007” and Much Music’s “Buzziest Pick” along the way. In 2008, Bunyan decided to focus on his solo material, which 24 Hour Magazine has described as “upbeat Dylan and accessible Waits without ever being a mere imitation of such folk greats.” Since recording his debut full-length album, Bunyan has toured in Canada and Europe.
Jon made a new year’s resolution to record and share one track per month, and as long as he keeps up with it we’ll be bringing these tracks to you here on V.I.A.! Below is the fifth one we’ve delivered, for May 2010 (way late, sorry!), entitled Quiet Bridges…

Listen to Quiet Bridges below, subscribe to receive ALL of the audio we release through V.I.A. on our iTunes channel and visit The Old Familiar on Myspace for more.

Carey Schaefer sent me an e-mail a little while back about Cumulus Project, which is an online concept store that offers only one object for sale at a time. Basically they have one item up for sale and once it sells then the next item is revealed and the process begins again. You can subscribe to be notified as the next new object is posted and so far they’ve all been fairly epicly unique, handcrafted gems.
Pictured below is the first item (er… items), a trio of stump stools! Somebody bought this set and the next 3 items and they’re now on item 5. Browse the archive and see what’s up for sale NOW.
