As part of Vancity Theatre's Cinema Salon Series (which I told you about before) last week, Mayor Gregor Robertson was invited to present his "favourite" film.

He chose environmental documentary The Planet. It was good and I liked it OK.

While introducing the film he mentioned that making his final selection was a tough choice and that Slap Shot came in a close second. I realize why it makes sense to have one of North America's greenest mayors pick an important, environmentally-themed film such as The Planet. Truly, I do. But as cool as our green mayor is, there's a part of me that would have found him that much cooler if he'd have gone with Slap Shot. Next time, Gregor. Next time.

The Mayor declared this more of a "low five." But that's because he is 7"9 and I am, uh, not.

I had the chance to chat with the Mayor briefly after the show. I gave him a Vancouver is Awesome sticker because really, if anybody should have one it's that guy. I told him it would be perfect for his Prius (or bike, as the case may be). He also mentioned that he reads Bob's tweets @viawesome! (But never, ever at work.)

He uses his hands a lot when he talks. It's actually rather endearing.
