Vancouver-based 2010 Polaris Music Prize nominees!

The fifth annual Polaris Music Prize festivities kicked off today! The Prize is “a music award annually given to the best full-length Canadian album based on artistic merit, regardless of genre, sales, or record label” which means that a lot of my personal favourite bands (and yours) are likely on their way to being shortlisted.

The top 40 albums/artists were announced today and CBC Radio 3 has put together a playlist containing a song from each of the nominees. Have a listen HERE.

Below are all of the Vancouver bands that made the cut, click on their individual names to see the MANY posts we’ve made about each of them in the past:

Apollo Ghosts – Mount Benson
Brasstronaut – Mt. Chimaera
Hannah Georgas – This Is Good
Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice
The New Pornographers – Together
Tegan And Sara – Sainthood
You Say Party! We Say Die! – XXXX
Yukon Blonde – Yukon Blonde

They’re whittling the list of 40 down to ten which will be announced on July 6th, with the grand prize winner being announced September 20th… so stay tuned!
