The Proof – Lindsay Dianne

June 29, 2010

Lindsay Dianne is Running Scared Photography.  Each of Lindsay Dianne’s images evokes a sense of child-like wonder in those who view them.  Her attention to the unique and often over-looked detail is what makes her art truly sing.  Whether it be shooting an act of civil disobedience, capturing a baby’s first smile or the adulation and mutual appreciation of an artist and his fans, she consistently documents the heart of the moment, and the truth that lies behind it.
-Michelle Wetzel

Lindsay Dianne Proof

The Proof
1. My family- that is.. myself, unhusband- Nathan, and daughter- Abigail. This picture was taken in Disneyland (my favourite place) in March of this year which was our first real vacation as a family. My unhusband and I have been together for what is rapidly approaching five years and he is my rock, my inspiration and what has kept me going. It wasn’t very long ago I was ready to get another day job and he asked the question, “What about photography?” He holds me accountable, and it is he and my daughter that give me something to motivate action, day after day.

2. I was born on Christmas, and while I love the summer… I shudder to think of living in a place that didn’t have ice and frost. There is something so calming, for me, about the stillness of a frosty winter morning in BC. When it’s warm I sometimes miss it… but don’t tell anyone I said that.

3. This is Pepper sleeping like a dog. She’s a horse, she lives on Vancouver Island at one of my closest friend’s hobby farm. She’s older than I am, and she’s a gentle girl who I trust completely with my three year old (Except for the one time when she stepped on her toe, but my daughter tried to take her food dish). Pepper has been the horse who has gotten me used to horses. We visit Vancouver Island once a month because I feel that it gives my daughter a chance to get to be around farm animals that I was never accustomed to, and it gives me a chance to change that I was not accustomed to them.

4. Unhusband walking in the BC rainforest. There is nothing I find more peaceful than being surrounded by old, mossy trees. If I must be in an urban area… Thank God it is one with plenty of available green space.

5. This sign is on my front door. It serves as a personal reminder, for me, that belief is such a strong thing. In the last 12 months I have practically moved emotional mountains.. and I’ve done it all through the undoubted belief that I could and would be successful in what I set out to do. I believe in miracles, but moreover I believe in the groundwork that allows miracles to happen.

6. These are our three furry babies. Bella on the right, Luna in the middle, and Dotty is the little one on the left, and the newest member of our family. For me, a house is not a home without pets to share it with. I am an animal lover through and through- It doesn’t stop with cats!

7. We also have two fancy rats who deserve a space of their very own. Sisters who live on my desk and often watch me work, these pets have convinced me that the ONLY rodent that we will house is going to be rats. They’re like tiny, misunderstood dogs who can even do tricks.

8. And last we have my herb garden. It is one of 6 gardens I have in my yard. I am working as hard as I can to be as sustainable as I can be- it’s one way I feel I can connect with both my food and the earth that delivers it to me. Since I began gardening, I have adopted it with no trouble and find it extremely relaxing when I need to getaway from it all- hands in the dirt.

The Questions
What neighbourhood do you live in?
I lived in East Vancouver until I was in my early twenties, I attended Vancouver Technical Secondary and then King George Secondary, downtown. I consider these neighbourhoods to be my stomping grounds. I lived in Kits for a year, and slowly began moving east, into the suburbs.

What do you do and where?
I’m a photographer. I own a photography business that is based on the West Coast of British Columbia. I shoot whenever and wherever I am needed, mostly outdoor events and portraitry at the moment, though I have some experience with weddings and babies.

What are you working on?
I just wrapped a shoot of the All British Field Meet for Hagerty’s Collector Car Magazine- it was an absolute blast to shoot. Right now I am just getting ready for a week on Vancouver Island before the super busy season starts for picture-taking and I have no opportunities for rest. I’m also planning out a couple of awesome shoots that are going to push the envelope in terms of how risky my shoots are… But I can’t give away all my secrets!

Where can we find your work?
My work is available through my webpage, Running Scared which will also link to all appropriate social networking sites. It also links to my blog which was recently voted the number four top mom blog in Vancouver.

Scene and Heard: Last Week in Music Volume 14: ft. Bend Sinister and Minus The Bear

June 29, 2010
sceneandheard
SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.

We interview some of our favourite local artists, and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city.

Last week in music for me was actually more like last week in events and parties in Vancouver. Despite the beginning of Jazz Fest, most of my nights were spent at fashion shows and food-related parties.

That is however, until Saturday rolled around and I zipped over to Venue to catch Bend Sinister open for Minus The Bear.

For their first time playing since January (and their first gig minus guitarist Henry) they were as great as ever. Their set was short and sweet, due to another one of those early-shows Vancouver is seeing more and more of as of late, but they had the bro-show there to see MTB dancing up a storm:

Have a listen to a sample of what’s to come on This Is That, as they interview a Texas billionaire who plans to buy the entire CFL to make one super team franchaise for America’s NFL…

AMITYVILLE HORROR HOUSE…..

June 28, 2010

‘Charming 1910 house. This home has been in the same family for almost 90 years. Featuring an open stair case, 9 foot ceilings on the main floor, original unpainted fireplace hearth with a gas insert, and 3 good sized bedroom and large landing up. The basement is mostly unfinished and over 7 feet high with great potential for further development. Double concrete block garage. Nice mountain views and conveniently located close to all amenities. THIS GEM WON’T LAST!’

Funny how they left out ‘SUPER HAUNTED!’

Seriously….I’ve always loved this house….it’s cool I finally now know the real truth and no…no one was killed in it.

Cocktails for a Cause

June 28, 2010

Thursday night in Vancouver, the fashionists were out in support of Cocktails for a Cause, at the Marciano by Guess store on Robson Street. The event was hosted by Vancouver fashion bloggers Olivia Lovenmark (Style Struck) and Niki Blastina (A Haute Mess); the girls were supporting a non-profit called Dress for Success and the guests took full advantage of the private shopping experience/discounts:

Check out more photos from the event on Style Struck’s blog and A Haute Mess’ blog.

HOLY MVP HENRIK!

June 28, 2010

As long as he keeps racking up awards….I’m going to keep posting this photo. I’m getting more milage than this one even. So happy I ran back and asked him ‘which one?’

Congrats on being named assistant captain, winning the scoring title, and now the MVP.

Remember when someone corrected me that there’s no ‘C’ in Henrik? I kinda think my next post may address that.

What IS An Endive?

June 28, 2010

THIS is an endive…made into a floral arrangement.

THIS is an endive when you put it in a beef slider:

and THIS is a candied endive!:

This still doesn’t exactly tell you what an endive IS! So I will pass along the knowledge gained at the ENDIVE GALA held last week at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.

The ENDIVE is a white, cone-shaped vegetable, relatively new to North American markets. There are only a few farmers …READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY>>>
