Welcome to the Cho Show!

2 Tickets to see – and meet – Margaret Cho on Saturday!

The lovely, talented, and always hi-larious Margaret Cho‘s latest album Cho Dependent is being released today, featuring musical collaborations with the likes of Fiona Apple, Ben Lee, Grant Lee Phillips, Ani Difranco and Vancity’s favourite identical indie wonder twins – Tegan and Sara! Check out this very cool article from SPIN magazine about the experience with the pair and Margaret’s time in Vancouver recording at Bryan Adams’ studio. You can even listen to their track, Intervention.

“Eat Shit and Die,” with Grant Lee Phillips. Love those, uh, turds. And her hair feather!

You, too, can experience the CHO-larity for yourself on Saturday, where Margaret will be playing the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Tickets are still available so if you don’t already have a pair, you should pick some up before it sells out.

Or you could win some here… and get to meet her backstage.

Vancouver is Awesome
has two magical passes to both the show and the meet-and-greet. CHO-riffic!

Do you remember that SNL skit where Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze are Chippendales dancers in a dance-off audition to Loverboy’s Working for the Weekend? I don’t know why, but every time I think of it I get teary because it’s just so darned funny. Something about Farley’s oblivious expression and Swayze’s earnest hip-thrusting… it just kills me. Every. Single. Time.

What kills/slays/cracks you up? Leave your comment to enter and enter as many times as you like. Winner will be picked at random and contacted by email. Contest closes on Friday, August 27 at 1:00 pm.

Good luck!

People falling in public (and yes I know I’m going to Hell for that). Best fall ever – during the Winter Olympics, Drunk girl riunning down Hemlock in Yaletown and trying to jump over orange road block barrel. Hilarious! Would have been dramatic if she hadn’t been screaming as she ran down the road and maybe if she hadn’t slid and then quickly jumped up like the road block had tripped her. OK – so maybe it’s really drunk people falling in public that really makes me laugh! God they’re funny.

  • Tricia

my best friend never fails to make me laugh. We have all the crazy inside jokes that only we know. He will do the most insane things just to make me laugh.

  • Dylan

The faces that Margaret can pull! Boy can she pull a face. She can pull her lips into a tight asshole of a mouth. And as a gay man you know how much we like those :).

  • Kim

When my step-uncle starts telling the story about the time he saw a slit into the next dimension and interrupted a fairy and a pixie talking. I usually spend the night bowled over laughing, tears flowing, belly aching. It’s bliss. I love that nutter.

  • http://gunstreet-girl.blogspot.com Jen

My sister and I have the most hilarious time together, and often when we’re laughing we starting laughing in exactly the same way, and our voices sound really similar and that just makes us laugh even harder until we are basically hyperventilating and can’t look at each other because we’ll start laughing again and never be able to breathe.

  • GMo

I have no standards for what makes me laugh – it’s a “in the moment” type of thing.

Last year I was invited to be on a float in the Vancouver pride parade.

When I arrived I found out that it was a float for a whale watching company.

The first thing that popped into my mind was Margaret Cho…

    “Lesbians *Loooooveeeeee* whale watching.”

I still crack up every time I hear or think about the Pride parade.

To Lori above, you comment cracks me up because a) I saw that exact same float at Pride this year and b) I thought the exact same thing when I saw it! I haven’t had an amazing laugh in a while, had a stressful week, this show would be a perfect destresser!

  • Katherine

Also, what cracks me up is the noise that indicates the doors closing on the skytrain! It gives you zero warning, sounds offensively high pitched and actually has little function at all since if you’re walking through at the time, you’re still going to get squished. :) Still surprises me all time, even though I take the train a lot!

Whenever my dad says “fluctuations.” From a joke where an Asian guy goes into a bank to exchange money and sometimes he gets $5, sometimes he gets $10 for the same amount. “What’s going on here? How come sometimes I get $5 or sometimes I get $10?” The bankteller says, “fluctuations.” “F-ck the Asians?!! F-ck the Canadians!!!”

  • Neeve

What’s cracking me up right now is that every time I meet or am introduced to people here in Vancouver they assume that I moved here because of the *recession* (I’m Irish by the way). Oh, and they all think that I drink Guinness (I don’t drink – they can’t believe it!), grew up on a farm (city girl all the way) and that I believe in leprechauns! Throw in the fact that I’m a lesbian and it gets even funnier (Catholicism anyone?). Hey, I love Margaret Cho and I would love to bring my girlfriend to the show (it’s her 30th birthday this weekend). So please pick me, I’m broke afterall and was forced to flee my farm back home, due to the recession! ;)

  • Joanne

    Cho Cho Choooose me!

  • Niamh

It cracks me up that some people above have entered the contest over 6 times – be fair friends of Cho! :)

This contest is now closed and a winner has been chosen. Thanks for playing, everyone! R.
