Riding to Richmond & the Road to Steveston (Part I)

Ahh............did you squeeze enough of your summer? I never feel that I do. Not to the last drop, anyhow. One of the simple ways that I suppose I do though is just biking around the city after work and on weekends.

Ahh............did you squeeze enough of your summer? I never feel that I do. Not to the last drop, anyhow. One of the simple ways that I suppose I do though is just biking around the city after work and on weekends. From Burnaby, me and my riding crew usually take different routes westbound towards Main, the west side, Kits and onto thru the Seawall to English Bay where we usually grab a shawarma, enjoy the views at English Bay then head on back home. On weekends though, we try some longer different routes again. Riding to Richmond is now made a lot smoother with the Canada Line bridge which has a pedestrian/bike path. It starts, of course, just south of Cambie & Marine Drive and drops you off right at River Drive & Van Horne Way on the Richmond side, right by Bridgeport Station and the River Rock Casino....

From over the bridge, you can continue on thru Richmond in ways, of course. You can also bypass the Canada Line and head to Iona Beach. Richmond itself is nice and flat so it doesn't make for the most strenuous rides if you just want to cruise and take it easy. One route is to the follow River Road along the Fraser River and you will hit the Richmond Olympic Oval and eventually the Richmond Dykes which rivals any scenery in the Lower Mainland.

You will eventually hit one of the sweetest parks in the Lower Mainland in Gary Point Park at Steveston. A few minutes walk from the Steveston Village and pier, you can reward your trek with some good ol' fish & chips or ginormous fried oysters or some hearty, thick chowder.

This is my first post in series of taking you from the Vancouver side of the Canada Line bridge to the Dykes to Gary Point park and Steveston village.
