Why, Herro there ... how you doin'?

On Monday, I posted about what I believe is one of the best aspects of any local craft fair - the artists and designers themselves. There is such an amazing collective energy from all of these entrepreneurs (mostly women, which is fantastic!) who have actually managed to take something artistic that they have a passion and skill for - and turn it into a viable little business.

Besides drooling over the impressive range of unique, handmade items for sale at OoAK, I am really looking forward to meeting with and chatting to some of the artists, whose personal stories behind the pursuit of their creative passions always inspires me to (try to) do the same thing. It's empowering!

Kym Banguis is the owner, designer, and humor behind Herro Hachi. Born in the Philippines, raised in Hong Kong, and now settled in beautiful British Columbia, Kym she fell in love with cultures and tourism. With a diploma in Marketing and Tourism from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Kym worked in the Hotel industry for for years then settled for a '9-5' job thinking... it was the right thing to do. A little after landing a great university position she decided it was time to finally do what she loved. "I've always been a t-shirt kind of girl" says Kym, and so it only made sense for Herro Hachi to be a t-shirt kind of brand!

Inspired by the funny things in life, childhood dreams, and the beauty behind cultures, Kym continues to create witty T's while enjoying the Vancouver weather. When she's not designing, you'll find her spending time with her family, scoping out the area for the best places to eat, or simply enjoying the funny things in life.
