By now I hope you’ve either picked up a printed copy of the joint issue of the magazine that we did with Discorder from one of the many LOCATIONS that stock it or you’ve DOWNLOADED the PDF from us for FREE. Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to bring you an inside look behind each and every spread.

Next up are a couple of spreads that our Managing Visual Editor of the issue, Christine McAvoy, put together. It’s an ambitious extension of her “Last Week In Music” series of features that she does on the blog, but it’s extended with interviews with a bunch of the musicians she featured this year. You must read it, and also appreciate the amount of work that went into photographing each one of these musicians. Christine works tirelessly shooting Vancouver’s independent music scene, I honestly think that somebody should give her a trophy for all of the work she’s done.

My favourite interview of 2010 was with Snoop Doggy Dogg. Now this is for a variety of reasons. One of which is a microwave. Yes, a microwave. Once you see the interview below you will know what I am talking about. Also to read and hear the full UNEDITED interview click HERE.

This Untitled photo from viperstrike76 really makes me smile. Talk about perfect timing; I mean, of all the corners of Vancouver, who would guess that a wormhole/energy-field/timewarp/dimensional portal/space bridge/thingie would spontaneously appear in Gastown?

Although the more I think about it, why not Gastown?

“Firstly, I love the whole concept of DiYVR. I am always interested and impressed with normal people being crafty in some way. It’s inspiring and cool. I love handmade anything and the embrace/return to domestic arts, so anything that celebrates that has my vote. Also, the name of it is freaking inspired genius. I mean – GENIUS. I can’t wait to see what happens with that feature.

Secondly, whales-in-the-city make me happy. I posted on seeing a whale HERE, and there are more whale-in-the-city posts HERE and HERE. They are magnificent and rare, and I love that when there is an appearance EVERYONE gets happy and excited, it’s like these amazing animals just have such an equalizing effect on everyone… loving them is something we all have in common; united, we feel graced and humbled when they visit. Well, I did, anyway… and if it wasn’t for the first two posts on whales I probably wouldn’t have brought my camera when I went to the beach that day, and I am insanely grateful that I did because capturing that moment was one of my summer highlights.”
