By now I hope you’ve either picked up a printed copy of the joint issue of the magazine that we did with Discorder from one of the many LOCATIONS that stock it or you’ve DOWNLOADED the PDF from us for FREE. Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to bring you an inside look behind each and every spread.
Twelfth up is a spread that our Vancouver Book Club president, Lizzy Karp, put together. Essential Vancouver reading, this is also one of my favourites.

“Rattlehead
Self explanatory, look at this guy.
Vancouver’s Most Awesome interview with Moka Only
Self-proppin but Moka’s answers really take you into the heart of the old school days of hip hip in town and the pics he scanned himself do the same. Honestly feel this is a real hearty meat Q&A about Vancouver.
iPod Battle/Hip Hop Karaoke
More self proppin but its harder to get out to the clubs and enjoy one-self as us older folk get older. These 2 nights were just real good ol fashioned fun.”

Welcome to The Playground, a place for Vancouver families. Every Wednesday I post a roundup of upcoming family-friendly events and activities. I’m always on the lookout for fun stuff to do, so if there’s something happening that you think I should know about, contact me. |
I’m on my way to New Zealand with the family, so things will be quiet until we return on January 16th. Have fun while I’m away and have a great New Year.
Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!).
It is said that you only get one chance to make a first impression, and with the way that VARious moments was making an entrance into my consciousness I was just blown away.
There is something mind-boggling about all these reflections, and I find myself captivated by the multiple views of the same people. It’s almost like a deconstructed bullet-time shot splayed out.
You know what I wish I had? I wish I had an archive of the Vancouver Grizzlies. Like a full on database containing images of every knickknack and t-shirt ever made with their logo on them, team photos and stats, videos of every game they ever played and clippings of every single Province and Sun article about their ups and downs before they left us to go to Memphis.
Okay, that’s a lie. I’m happy with this ticket stub that I found in a shoebox in storage the other day. $19.80?! Sure my seat was way back in the nosebleeds directly behind the basket but less than twenty bucks to see our team get beat by Kemp and Payton? I only wish I could pay twice as much to see that again today.

Here are some other Vancouver Grizzlies posts we’ve made in the past: 1, 2, 3, 4.
There will be more.

“Some of my favourite of MY posts:
One Night Stand
Ringing in the new year with some of Vancouver’s finest musicians. Very fitting for how I spent much of my time in 2010.
An Awesome Showcase
Where I lived for the Olympics. A taste of my morning routine.
Peak Performance Project #1 finale
Peak Performance Project #2 finale
TWO Peak Performance Project finale shows in one year. So much money handed out to Vancouver talent.
Last Week In Music
Favourite Last Week In Music. Dan Mangan sold out the Vogue and I took some of my favourite concert photos ever.
Fadermaster Mo Off Spectacular
This was an epic night of music and hair removal. Some Mo’s needed to go, for others it was kinda depressing, and spectacular to shoot the before-afters.
Other favourite posts and why:
V.I.A. print magazine Issue 1
Hands down, favourite post of the year. I cried when I got my hands on the magazine (right there in the newspaper store)… and was so excited to be able to share it with the rest of the world on the website. I sincerely hope we get to do another one soon.
Introducing the Vancouver Book Club
The day Lizzy joined the team and we launched the VIA Book Club, I did a little dance. I look forward to lots of required reading in the new year and spreading the WORD about Vancouver literary talent with Lizzy.
The Iggy Heard Around the World
It’s hard to pick one Olympics-related post, but this video made me smile and gave me goosebumps every time the horn went. I will forever remember that day of my life when the men won gold and the streets flooded (this is the video I made of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoOSb2C6Br4). The Olympics were here because Vancouver Is Awesome.”

The next taping of Paul Anthony’s Talent Time goes down next Wednesday, January 5th at the Biltmore. Paul’s show is on TV at 11 pm & 1:30 am everyday, 7 days a week on channel 4 on the Novus network, so why should you even bother making it out to the live show? Because it’s the best live show in town, that’s why. I stand by that statement and if you haven’t already checked it out I really hope that you take at least one night out in the next year (hey, how about next Wednesday?) to laugh your face off, be entertained and see some of Vancouver’s real talent take the stage. You might even find yourself getting hooked and wanting to go back again and again. AND it’s only $8 at the door.
This next one is entitled “Favourite Things” and it’ll open with a big musical dance number and continue to present to you some of the things Paul can’t live without, complete with audience giveaways! And featuring some of his favourite entertainers, click HERE to see the lineup and RSVP!
