Scene and Heard: Last Week In Music Vol. 39 ft. Talent Time, Peter Panties

SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver.

sceneandheard SCENE AND HEARD showcases the independent music scene here in Vancouver. We interview some of our favourite local artists, post weekly guest playlists comprised of Vancouver artists and ‘Last Week in Music’ highlights some of the concerts happening around the city...

I had quite the cultured and busy week this first week of February...heard some stories (photos soon), saw a play, shot some promo photos and celebrated our co-3rd-year-anniversary.

A fun time was had by all.

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC: First of all, if you haven't voted in the CBC Radio 3 Searchlight, you can do so by clicking here (hopefully you'll vote for us on that giant list of awesomeness). There are a couple of great shows coming up this week... Teen Daze is at the Biltmore tonight, and Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (& Steph Macpherson) are there on Wednesday. If you didn't get enough Biltmore, head there Thursday to see Hey Marseilles, The Ruffled Feathers and Henry & The Nightcrawlers, (after checking out the Poetry Is Dead party at the Waldorf of course, and THEN go to the Sad Mag launch party at the Anza Club!). Friday is the BIGGEST show of the week, the 65_RedRoses show at the Massey Theatre in New West - Dan Mangan, The Zolas, Hannah Georgas and David Vertesi. Saturday, check out In Media Res (with Safety Show, and Dan Moxon of Bend Sinister). Sunday, head to the Biltmore again for Spring Breakup & Tariq Hussain! and THEN...WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR WHAT VIAindie HAS IN STORE FOR YOU FOR VALENTINES DAY...watch for our announcement later.

Peter Panties is running as part of the PuSh Festival until February 13th at the Cultch. I was lucky enough to catch it last week, and let me tell you, it was one of the most interesting things I've ever seen. I actually don't know how to describe it properly...it's one of those things you just have to see for yourself! Side note: Veda Hille did the music for the show and it's AMAZING...worth seeing the play for that alone.

Here is how PuSh describes the play:

"A radical re-imagining of the Peter Pan story filtered through the collective brains of co-writers Niall McNeil & Marcus Youssef. A dreamscape where Peter Pan & Macbeth drink lattes, hang with Grissom & Willows from CSI, and Tinkerbell & Wendy duke it out between crotch kicks."
