In The Playground for the week of February 9-15: the Super Kids CD release party, Bird Brain at the Carousel Theatre, Story Time and Craft at Indigo Kids, Winterfest 2011 at the Richmond Oval and an ice skating party,

This Saturday, Music with Marnie is putting on a show to promote the release of Super Kids, Marnie's fourth album. The new disc celebrates "the Super Hero qualities that every child possesses." The show gets underway at 11AM at the Scottish Cultural Centre. Tickets are $12 and kids that dress up as a super hero get a complimentary 5x7 picture with Marnie courtesy of BOPOMO Pictures.

Also on Saturday, the Carousel Theatre begins a three weekend run of Bird Brain. "An adaptation by one of Canada’s premier playwrights of a delightful German children’s book, this lovely tale about being different will make your heart sing." There are two performances each Saturday and Sunday and it's intended children 5+. Tickets are $29/adult, $15/child and are available online.

The Robson St. location of Chapters Indigo is hosting Story Time and Craft this Saturday in the Indigo Kids section of the bookstore. The storyteller will be reading 'Bob and Otto' and the kids will be making paper plate bugs. 2-5PM and admission is free.

This Saturday and Sunday the Richmond Oval will be home to the 2011 Richmond Winterfest Weekend. The website has all kinds of activities listed (check the schedule) including an opportunity to meet three of Canada's Olympic Athletes. Best of all, it's free!

Lastly, on Valentine's Day, the Kitsilano Community Centre is hosting a skating party from 1:15-3PM. "Door prizes, concession, hot chocolate, face painting, games and more." Partygoers will receive %50 off the regular, drop-in admission fees.
