UNPLUGGED: Surfing in Tofino

UNPLUGGED is a state of mind.

It's that point in your consciousness where you can feel at one with nature, escaping the trappings of the day-to-day to an almost dream-like place where nothing else seems to exist besides you and your natural surroundings. It is our opinion here at VIA that Vancouver holds a unique place in the civilized world in that reaching this state often requires no more effort than simply pulling off to the side of the road, pocketing your keys and taking a few steps into the forest.

In the fall I decided to take my family for a week's vacation out in Tofino. The Cold Water Classic was in full swing and we figured it would be a good time to experience the West Coast of the Island in it's full splendor. The trip was fantastic and allowed me to spend a week free of work, traffic, email and my Blackberry all the while fishing with my daughter and shooting surfers braving the waves. It was a truly UNPLUGGED experience and one that I had planned on sharing with you at the time but never got around to it. Now that we are on the back side of winter and Tofino is once again an option I thought I would share one of my pics from that week with you. Enjoy.

By the way, please don't forget that if you want to see your outdoor photo's featured at VIA, submit them to our V.I.A. UNPLUGGED Flickr pool.
