When I look at Mark Marilla's Untitled photograph below, my mind flips back and forth between two different readings of it; on first glance I immediately read the body language of the protagonist as conveying a sense of loss in some way, a longing for someone who is no longer here. But upon revising the image it occurred to me that this instead could be anticipation, of waiting for someone's return.
Of course, these kinds of things can happen when you live on the edge of a continent. But that's just my interpretations, everyone has their own.
...and in case you were wondering - rückenfigur? You bet.
