Melanie is a unique little package of contradictions. A homebody who loves to explore the world, letterpress geek enthralled with the possibilities of web type, digital photographer with a film obsession, visual artist with a pragmatic outlook and a hippie who loves technology.
Having seen much of the world in her travels, Melanie Shave has found a home in Vancouver, where she turned her photographic eye to graphic design during her studies at Emily Carr. She now shares her creative insight with her clients and it is truly a pleasure to be part of her process as she delivers on a creative vision.
When she sets down her camera and walks away from her MacBook, she can be found in the kitchen turning organic local ingredients into amazing meals for friends and family.

The Proof
01 My little workspace.
02 Collection of all my favorite photographs. Tired of so many photos hiding on my computer, I painted one of our living room walls black, screwed thin strips of metal to it and hung the photos up with magnets. Now I can easily switch them whenever I get bored!
03 Design, photography and travel books.
04 I joined the Co-Operative Auto Network (Car CO-OP) when I first moved to Vancouver as a temporary solution, it has been over two years now and I have no desire to own a car, yay for car sharing!
05 Growing up in a city that usually gets 5+ months of snow, I am in love with the once a year snowfalls that bring Vancouver to a standstill.
06 I head to North Vancouver for some hiking when I need to getaway, it’s amazing that a 20 minute drive can make you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.
07 Nut-free pesto with organic Basil from the Kitsilano Farmers Market.
08. Best part of working from home? Comfy clothes! You can find me wearing big sweaters, leggings and long socks everyday.
The Questions
What neighborhood do you live in?
Kitsilano. Originally from Edmonton I moved here with my boyfriend after living in London, England for two years. Having never been to Vancouver before stepping off the plane we had no idea where to live, took the first apartment offered and couldn’t be happier. Every time I leave the apartment I am reminded how beautiful the area and city is.
What do you do and where?
I am a freelance graphic designer, I specialize in branding, web and iphone design. I work from home and in the summertime from the beach or a grassy field. For fun I take photos, get my hands dirty in my little apartment garden plot and write on my blog, modernhippie.tumblr.com
What are you working on?
I am working on a few branding projects but the majority of my time is currently dedicated to weheartrecipes.com, a recipe bookmarking site that will hopefully be released in the next month. Being able to combine my design work with my passion for food and local eating has made this project so much fun. I look forward to seeing it out in the community and contributing to the awesomeness of Vancouver.
